General discussion forum / Starlink and the 1258...

For those of you far away from terrestrial-based internet, or are plagued by poor Wireless Internet,
Starlink now supports publicly ipv4 addresses on their network, with the $140/month Plan.
The IP4 is not static however (easily solved with DDNS).

I've been using it at KL7RA and it is flawless.

Thanks Mitch,

Do you mean the power switch on the DF3CB software
Front panel?  I tried that, but it did not work.

I'm presuming there is some CAT command to power on the station 5000.

Thanks,

Gerry W1VE

Hi,

I am very experienced with RRC and Elecraft twin.
I am trying to help friends remote FT5000.

DF3CB. Has excellent software to emulate FT5K on screen.

CAT I understand.  Issue is how do I force the connection to Start?  How does connection start with a real FT5K ?

Any hints/kinks appreciated.

Hety folks,

I'm a very active RRC user on many stations.  So I've done just about every scenario.  Now I'm stumped on this one.

The station-side RRC has the K3 Serial port connected to COM2 of course, and remote works perfectly.  However, we are trying to have local
contest control with N1MM, using COM1 to feed the local computer, as Mode 7 echos CAT on COM1.  This works perfectly.  However, no CW keying!
COM1 in this mode does not act on DTR or RTS keying as far as I can see.  There are the three Virtual serial ports when you plug in the
station side mini USB, but as far as I can see, they do nothing.   Is this how it functions?  It should be possible, as the hardware seems to
be there... so local and remote control, with a single RRC-1258, at the station, should be possible.  I can't find a way to make it happen,
without adding another WinKeyer to the mix.

Maybe someone else has found a way and can share?

General discussion forum / Re: K3 Remote using KX3?
« on: 2018-07-04, 22:09:58 »
Figured it out myself.  The Elecraft twin mode does not work with KX3, but Mode 4 does work.
You will have to change local and Remote RRCs to Mode 4.   In this mode, powering on the KX3 does not power on the station.  However, you can go to the control RRC WEB Page, and press the Connect button on the status page.

General discussion forum / K3 Remote using KX3?
« on: 2018-07-04, 16:26:09 »
I have reviewed the previous posts and do not see a clear answer; not sure there is one.

Has anyone successfully controlled a K3 using a KX3 over RemoteRig?  I’m particularly concerned about powering on the K3.

Thanks and73,

Hardware, Cabling, Installations / K3 Twins, No Mic Audio...

Hey Follks,

Gerry, W1VE here... Working with J, VY1JA, trying to get everything ready for Phone SS... CW has been working fine on the station.   I use my K3/0 on SSB with the K2LE remote all the time.
Both stations have exact same RRC config.  We have it set up for continuous RTP, full-duplex so VOX will work.

Whitehorse is a K3s to RRC.  I'm a K3/0 to RRC.

J has two sets of AUX/RJ45-to-1/8" mic + RCA PTT cables.  We have tried both.  Local Heil headset plugged into radio works fine.
We double-checked jumpers... all the 2-pin ones are shorted and the IC-socket jumpers are set correct for K3.
Stumped.  Worried we have a bad RRC.  Transporting stuff to the Yukon is a nightmare.

Any ideas?

Where is the setting for COM3?  I see it nowhere.

I also see W4RM has same issue...  The UI has changed and no documentation on how to configure?  Please help.

I'm trying to make Winkey work using the control RRC.

I understand that I'm supposed to set the COM3/COMextra port to Winkey, point N1MM+ at that, and we are good.

Here's the problem:  The manual does not reflect what we see on screen.  I totally understand technically what to do, but can't figure the UI out.

My serial settings has:
Serial settings

COM1 mode
COM1 baudrate
COM1 data bits
COM1 stop bits
COM1 parity
COM1 rts/cts
COM1 terminator (hex)

COM2 mode
COM2 baudrate
COM2 data bits
COM2 stop bits
COM2 parity
COM2 terminator (hex)

That's it.  And the mode has no WINKEY setting or COMextra.

ON I/O settings,
I have Out0 mode, Out1 mode and Out2 mode -- none of which have a Winkey setting in the drop down (Thought it does have some RTTY options).  (Is Out2 COMExtra???)

Trying to set this up for IARU, so quick help is needed.

Thanks Mitch!!

That was it, of course!!

Lots of documentation on using Pings 4 and 8 of the IO connector for CW.

I've tried two old RJ45 cables...  Pin 8, Ground, is brown, and Pin 4, the key line, is Blue.

Anyway, when I connect the two, nothing happens.

I am running a standard RRC box set for a K3, and the Remote is a K3.  I have set my own jumpers.  Everything works wonderfully, other than this.

Could a jumper be set wrong?  THe CW Paddle input, as well as the dot/dash pins on the I/O port, work fine.

Frustrated!

Hello RemoteRig fans....

I'm a software engineer, and an avid user of RemoteRig.  I've been working on a ham project, and it should be ready for beta testing in 1-2 weeks.

As a Remote user, you are aware that their are various front panels that are detachable, and can be made remote using RemoteRig and RS-232.

However, what if I want to control a TS-480 from a K3/0 Mini?   Or a TenTec Omni 7 from a TS480?
Impossible, right?  Not so.

These radios interoperate using the standard CAT protocols provided by their manufacturers.

What I'm building is a real-time CAT translator.   In it's initial release, it will support full VFO/RIT/XIT and some subset of other controls.   Later on, I'll support a macro language, which will allow you to convert certain commands proprietary to one manufacturer into a command for another.
Out of the box, this will support over 60 radios, including Icom, Kenwood, Yaesu, Elecraft, Ten Tec and many others.

Of course, it will be free.

At the remote end, you would need two physical serial ports on your PC.   One goes to RemoteRig, the other Goes to the front panel (or PC software) of choice.  Connecting these two ports will be my software in the middle.  Translation will be real-time in both directions.

What I'd like from you guys is to gauge interest.   Would any of you be interested in this capability?
In the next few weeks, I'll be looking for some beta testers.  If you are interested in being part of that, please send me a private email at gerry AT w1ve.com.

OK -- now I understand...

See you at Dayton.

On the way to Dayton, and from the flee market (spaces 1322-1324), and at the Crowne Plaza hotel, we will be operating the special event station K3R  "K3 - Remote", using the
K3/0 Mini remote, over 4G cellular to a station in Vermont.

Look for us on the bands!

Hi Mitch,

The K3 has a built-in Data decoder for receive.  In addition, it has a mode where you can send CW and FSK or AFSK comes out of the radio.  This allows Data-mode operation without a computer.  If I want to make quick, contest-style QSOs, this mode would work good for me.

However, I set up the K3 for this mode, and when I transmit (sending CW in Data mode), the rig does not transmit.
