Hello Dave

here is a bit more on the subject:
https://www.remoterig.com/forum/index.php?topic=7930.0

My settings:
Radio settings: audio quality: 0 - alaw 8 kHz (sufficient for my use in CW)
Advanced settings: RX buffer size: 16, RX jitter delay: 15, Audio packet size 40 (ms)

I wonder if the IP type pf service setting (default: 0) may be optimised.

The TS-480 setup has a lot less interruptions than the my second one with twin TS-590s (IMHO a bit disappointing..)

I have my RRC-1258 on the radio site connected through a Netgear Nighthawk M5 Router (no landline / fibre available). I have downgraded it to 4G (LTE), recommended by my provider. When using 5G I had way too many interruptions. At my radio site the 5G has only one channel and it is congested. I still have some audio interruptions with 4G but a lot less in comparison.

Is there a possibility to fine tune the settings ? In the advanced menu the IP type of service is set to 0. Can this be improved with a different setting ?
The audio quality has been set to 0 - alaw 8 kHz to conserve bandwith. The quality is sufficient.

Using a twin TS-590S setup resulted in much more audio droputs. The TS-480 is behaving a lot better in this respect, possibly generating less traffic but the receiver is worse in strong signal envoronments.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Re: WINKEY USE
« on: 2024-04-02, 14:14:11 »
Hello Nodir
on your Radio Unit: Keyer settings: PTT activated by Keyer: Yes, PTT delay ms: 10
on your Control Unit:
- Keyer settings: Enable
- Serial Settings: COM3 (Extra) mode (USB-COMFSK) : Morse-8 Winkeyer
- I/O Settings: IN0 mode: Keyer, OUT0 mode : Keyer
You must use the provided USB cable. In your Windows Device Manager the following is shown:
RRC1258 COMExtra (COMxx). Use this COM port in your Logging software (N1MM+) for the Winkeyer:
Config -> Config Ports, Mode Control, Winkey -> Hardware : COM11 tick CW/other -> tick Winkey.
N1MM+ will then send CQ etc. correctly to the Radio Unit. I can send you my printscreens if you like. FSK for RTTY can be configured as well, it needs a connection between the radio unit and the FSK input of the TRX.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Re: Help with TS-480 Remote

CW and FSK works fine with my setup. Both RRC units has a built-in Winkey and a FSK interface. You can connect the FSK output from the I/O RJ-45 connector to the FSK Input of the TS-480. You must make up the FSK cable yourself. I connect the radio side with a 3,5mm jack cable between the PAD and the KEY connectors. On the control unit I use the provided USB cable and my paddle connects to the PAD jack. Have a look at the manual first. For RTTY you can configure the control unit as follows: in the Serial settings COM3(Extra) mode you change COM3Extra mode (USB-COMFSK) from Mode-8 Winkeyer to Mode-10 Baudot-RTTY and restart the control unit.  I can send you some printscreens (chris.eugster@gmail.com).  73 de Christian HB9BJL

Stian,
I have the TS-590S Twin Setup (not TS-590SG).

On the control side I have connected the RRC-1258 COM 2 port (plug male)  to the TS-590S COM port (plug female) with pins 2 and 3 crossed (2-3, 3-2) and pins 5,7 and 8 wired straight.

On the radio side I have connected the RRC-1258 COM2 port (plug female) to the TS-590 COM port (plug female) with a straight cable (2-2, 3-3, 5-5, 7-7, 8-8).

The Baud rate (Menu 61) is 9600 Baud and the connection between the radios works fine. The COM1 port on the radio RRC (plug male) is connected to a RA0SMS Kenwood Band decoder (plug male) to send the band information to my Yaesu-compatible Linear amplifier with a crossed wiring. (2-3, 3-2, 5-5, 7-8, 8-7) .

At both sides the Radio and Serial settings are the same:
Radio settings: Program mode 18 - Kenwood 590 Twin.
Serial settings:
COM2 mode: Logical parallel with COM0.
COM1 mode (for the band data transfer):  Mode-7 CAT to COM2 (remote / local to remote)

I could not get the N1MM+ logging program to work with COM1 on the control side, so I used a direct USB connection between the TS-590S and the PC
with 115200 baud (menu 62). This works fine.
I helped testing both Transceivers side by side before deploying one to the remote site.
The only problem I have with the TS-590S Twin setup is that the M/V and the Split functions do not work. My firmware version is V.2.05.
Maybe a downgrade to V.2.00 could help in this matter. I can live without the memory channels but the Split function comes in handy when working DX stations.
I now use a workaround with the RIT button.

Hello Willi & all,
unfortunately, the Split function does not work when the twin TS-590S are connected between the home site and the remote station.  I have verified this several times, also by exchanging the Transceivers. The firmware is 2.05. Downgrading to versions 2.03 and 2.00 did not help. They can be found in the Groups.io TS-590 Forum.
https://groups.io/g/TS-590/files/TS590S%20Files/Programs,%20Equalizer%20Settings%20and%20Firmware/Firmware
I suppose this has something to do with the data transfer rate. Instead of Split, using RIT helps but it is more complicated to tune to the correct frequency.

Hello Willi,
thank you for your reply. The problem was finally solved after performing a Full Reset on both Transceivers while they were not not connected with Remoterig (press and hold A/B and switch TS-590S on, release both, then press again A/B).  The Split and the TF-Set functions work fine now.

I use a TS-590S Twin setup with my RRC-1258 MkII. This works fine, but the M>V memory channels and the SPLIT function doesn't work. I can live without memory channels but the split function is essential to work Dxpeditions. Is there a way to enable it ?

Hi Mike

Mode 7 works fine to get the frequency Data from the radio unit COM1 to my Kenwood Band Decoder (made by RA0SMS) using a 9-pin male-male null modem wiring (2->3, 3>2, 7>8, 8>7, 5=5).
The Band Decoder provides a BCD Code to remotely select the bands on a HVLA-700Y Transistor power amplifier. So far, so good. The baudrate is 9600 to match the fixed decoder setting.
But at the control unit I don't get any serial data for N1MM+ when connected to the COM1 port on my HP Compaq 8000 Desktop. I have to use the USB connection for CAT and for Winkey / FSK. These features work well.
The COM1 port doesn't seem to be working. Also some Functions of the TS-590S with the twin setup don't work such as Memory chanels and Split operation. The latter prevents me from working DXpedition stations. Is there an explanation for this behaviour ?

Hello,
I am testing a TS-590S Twin setup. It works fine with COM2 and COM0 in parallel with 9600 Baud.

Control Side:
I cannot get the CAT Frequency Data to my PC from COM1. I have tried all sorts of COM1 mode (4,6 and 7) setups, a straight an null modem ables but to no avail. Can you help me ? The only other way to get CAT Info for the N1MM+ Log program is using the USB port on the control TS-590S.

Radio Side:
COM1 can be set up in "Mode-11 CAT Info from CAT2" Does that mean that I get the CAT Info to use a BCD decoder to enable band switching on my HVLA-700 Amplifier ?

What is the best Baud rate to communicate between the twin TS-590S ?

Hello all,

in the PDF-file for the wiring for the TS-590 S(G) Twin Control side "TS-590 -> RRC-1258MkII" dated 141029,

downloadable here: https://www.remoterig.com/schema/K19-20-TS-590-twin.pdf

there is a fault in the drawing:

TS-590CAT port to RRC-1258MkII Control Side:
D-SUB 9p fem to D-SUB 9p fem

The correct pinout is:
2 to 3
3 to 2
5 to 5
7 to 7
8 to 8

The connections to the pins 7 to 8 should be straight and not crossed.
The drawing in the Remoterig RRC-1258 MkII Users Manual A40.pdf, Page 218, is, however, correct.
With this drawing I was able to connect two TS-590S with the Firmware 2.05 sucessfully together.
The Baudrate of 19200 Baud may be adapted to your local needs.
Please correct the mentioned pdf-file.

Hello,
For a few days I have audio interruptions. Moving the VFO or keying the radio brings the audio back. Is there a way to improve the audio reliability (ot the TOS setting) or to minimise the audio bandwith ? I do only CW, so audio quality is not an issue as long as the 500Hz tone gets through.
