Hello,
I have a RC-1216H that was used for amplifier web access and now I am trying to use it to access a Green Heron RT-21.  I am using SW release 4.27 and configured the 1216H with the MicroBit Managar and can access the WEB page.  In “Advance Settings” I set <Function type> to Green Heron RT-21” and <enable external help pages> to “Yes”.

On the 1216H’s RT-21 WEB page, when I click the “Power” button it activates the switch (which I need) and reports “Initialization in progress…” then “Rotator not initialized!”  The cable is the same one I use for local control.

Does anyone have some advice?

Thanks,

Configuration, Webswitch 1216H / RC1216H - Advanced Settings

I am trying to repurpose my 1216H from an ACOM interface to a rotator interface.  I am running FW 4.70.  When I go to advance settings there are no rotator choices just amps and SteppIR.  I see no way to reset the 1216H to factory settings and just reconfigure.  I should see RT-21, etc.

What am I doing wrong?  Thanks for any advice.

Thanks Palle for the response.  My ADSL router is at least 10m away from all radio equipment and I eliminated the LAN cable with a wireless hub but no difference.  I also have torroids on the router but will look at the filter you sent me the link about.   I have actually also tried hooking everything up as if going remote (i.e. on my local lan) and there is no problem.  Only actually when using the system remotely.  When friends are testing remotely I have no Internet problems with the shack computer going through the same wireless repeater.

The keyer has been set and works perfectly on the higher bands as I do a lot of remote contesting in the Winter including multi with others using their RR Controls to my RR Radio all with the same problem..

Thanks for the information.

General discussion forum / RRC-1258 Unusable on 80m & 160m
« on: 2019-09-10, 13:42:47 »
Hello All,

I have been using RR for a few years with two K3's.  For the last couple of years I have been plagued with a problem I can't seem to solve.  On either 80m or 160m the CW keying is totally disrupted and makes both bands unusable even at low power.  In local mode there is absolutely no problem at any power level.  I have measured the RF fields all around the RC-1258 and every other close place as keying was taking place and there is no difference local or remote.  Both antennas are heavily RF choked (actually tried 3 different 80m antennas with no help).   Observing remote operation locally there is no indication of a problem visually with the K3 or amplifier.  There is no problem from 10m to 40m.  I have to assume it is the RRC-1258 but why only on 80 & 160.

Does anyone have a hint as to what the problem is?

Thanks Mitch, I will give it a try.

I was operating remote this past weekend.  I had intermittent problems maintaining communications with my radio from the control radio (K3-twins).  It would work fine for a few hours on Saturday then lose communications and the control K3 would freeze.   Turning off the control and turning it back on got things working again.  My two 2116H's have no problem at all.  I made 400 QSOs in a contest Saturday in spite of the problem.

Sunday is a different story.  The control K3 freezes up almost every turn of the VFO.  I can still hear the audio and can transmit (COMExtra port works) but you cannot change frequencies (COM2 port) and my logging program is in a disconnected state except for WinKey.  I rebooted the control RR-1258 twice, rebooted the computer multiple times, shut off and restarted the control K3 multiple times, and shut the power at the radio site multiple times to restart the remote RR-1258 and the other 2116H controlled switches.  All with no help.

Does anyone have an idea where I can troubleshoot further?

Hello Jan,

Amazing, three brand new RS-232 cables out of the box were bad from 2 different manufacturers.  Used one of my old RS-232 cables and all worked immediately.  I trouble shot the problem with the Green Heron utility program first.

Thanks for your help and patience.  No wonder you couldn't figure out the problem :-)

I am now fully remote K3/ACOM 2000A/RT-21 - GREAT!

Hi Jan,

Yes, I already tried the one working great on my ACOM 2000 and it didn't work on the RT-21 either so I think the new 1216H is probably good.  I will try the new one on the ACOM 2000 and see if that works just to be sure.

I can hook up a terminal program but was already going the test with an RS-232 scanner sitting between the 1216H and the RT-21 next week.  I don't give up easily  :)

Thanks and I will let you know.

Hi Jan,

If there are no suggestions, and the 1216H does not work then I will have to return the 1216H.  I do have my first 1216H working with my ACOM 2000 perfectly after I replaced the defective RS-232 processor as received from Microbit.  I will try to get the second one working with the RT-21 again this weekend.

Hi Jan,

Yes, of course I read the manual.  As I said, the same cable was used to interface to Com 1 of my radio 1258 and that works so the cable is good.  The RT-21 communicates at 4800 baud. How is that accomplished with the 1216H given that there is no way to set the serial settings?  Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

I am trying to get the RRC-1216H working with my RT-21 controller.  I think it needs a standard RS-232 cable (works via computer and Com 1 on my RRC-1258) and not a null modem cable which is how I am configured.  However, when I "power on" via the web interface the message is "Rotor not initialized" and "Live Update" is active.  I have tried both my new 1216H and the one I use for my ACOM 2000 with the same results.

Any ideas?

Hi Mike,

I finally got back to the remote site with the new RS-232 chip installed and now everything is PERFECT!!!!

Thanks for your help.  The bad news is now I will have to buy another one for my rotor :-)

Again thanks for the help.

Sorry, BTW I can control the RT-21 with my RRC-1258

Mike, this may give you a further hint.  I have reconfigured the 1216H to control my Green Heron RT-21.  I am using the same RS-232 cable I use for computer control of the rotor.  Advanced settings shows RT-21.  Rotor settings configured and submitted.  Rotor power is on.  Go to web I/F "Rotor" and it shows "Disabled", "Live Update Active".  Click "Power ON" relay in RT-21 activated goes red and message says "Initialization in progress".  Then message changes to "Rotator not initialized!" and "Power On" indicator remains red for some time.

Is this 1216H defective?

Thanks,

Mike, of course I read the manual such as it is.  The cables are correctly made.  If they were not, I doubt you would be able to turn the ACOM on via the web interface.  If you would look at my previous posts, you would see that the web indicators track the RCU indicators if I change them on the RCU directly.  The Web Switch does nothing other than turn on the ACOM.  It also does not retrieve the ACOM's parameters.  That is why I want to see the schematic to see if my RRC 1216H is defective.
