General discussion forum / TinyFSK as RTTY engine
« on: 2021-05-18, 01:21:20 »
Is it possible to use, or has anyone had experience using, a TinyFSK or MORTTY as the FSK engine with Remote Rig?  I know that FSK is generated by the remote unit, but a nasty episode of jitter during a run in the last RTTY RU makes me wonder is an outboard unit would make a difference.

General discussion forum / Remote logging K3 Twins
« on: 2021-03-25, 22:24:54 »
I have been using the K3 Twins setup for some time with logging at the Control site with Writelog, which usually works well.  However in the last RTTY RU during a run on 15 meters nasty jitter appeared and put an end to the run.  Computers at both end are Win 10 with i7 CPU, fast cable internet at both ends.  Is this a network problem, and if so would doing logging at the remote site help?  And how would the cabling be changed to do this?  Any thoughts are appreciated.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Re-purposing K3 twin setup
« on: 2020-06-09, 16:45:28 »
My son, N9TR, and I have been using the K3 twin setup happily for some time:  we both have K3/0 mini/remote rigs.  Now the remote K3 has lost Tx power, and getting it fixed or even getting tech help is proving difficult.  One of us has an Icom 7300;  would it be possible to re-configure the Remote Rig boxes for the 7300 and simply put a 7300 at the remote and control sites?  And are all the cables needed available?
Thanks, Chuck, N8CL

And here I thought I had checked the power settings many times--but I swapped out computers recently, and the new laptop had power save turned on.  Thanks for your help, Mitch.

General discussion forum / CAT lost

About once a day, often at startup, I have no CAT: I can hear signals but frequency does not follow VFO.  This is cured by removing power (power connector and USB cable) from the Control RRC and re-powering.  The Radio side has no problems.  Any ideas for a cure??

While using a Verizon 4G-LTE hotspot at the Control site, I got comments that my CW turned into random garbage now and then.  A Wifi speed test showed the down speed about 8 Mbps, and the up 0.25 Mbps or worse.  Not good.  I was able to get a prepaid Comcast service that remained at 20 Mbps down and 1.0 up.  Not very impressive numbers, but it has worked perfectly on CW, FT-8, and SSB.  (K3, K3/0 mini).
