General discussion forum / SunSDR2 PRO + RemoteRig
« on: 2016-06-30, 18:20:33 »
Hello,

I would like to connect my new SunSDR2 PRO radio (http://media.sunsdr.eu/2015/11/SunSDR2_PRO_-_RadCom.pdf) through RemoteRig, although I think it is possible I would like to ask for some help.
The radio emulate TS-480 CAT protocol and has 2 independent receivers.
The radio has on front panel connectors for Mic, Headphone and CW key.
I would like to use RemoteRig to transport Mic, Headphone and CW over internet.
The microphone is an electret "ModMic 4.0 Attachable Boom Microphone"
- Pattern: Uni-directional
- Sensitivity: -38 ± 3 dB
- Response: 100 Hz–10 kHz
- SNR: >50+ dB
- Impedance: 2.2 KΩ
- Operating Voltage: 1 to 10V
- Max current at 2.0V: 500 µA
- Max input SPL: 110 dB

How do I setup the RRC (jumpers) for this configuration?

SunSDR2 PRO has the posibillity to open two receivers on the same time.
I didn't use this feature until now but from the manual I understand that RRC-1258 MK2s will transfer both signals (Main/Sub Receiver) on RRC Control SP connector.

Thank you!
Dan

General discussion forum / TS-480 head - light flashing
« on: 2016-06-18, 22:03:46 »
Hello,

I've noticed that the TS-480 head light is flashing when I increase the AF volume.
With AF vol at 9 o'clock the light is constant, no flashing, as I increase the volume the more intense is the light flashing.
I don't remember to see this behavior in the past.
Any idea ?

Thank you

General discussion forum / SO2R & RemoteRig
« on: 2016-04-15, 19:23:50 »
Hi,

I have a TS-480SAT connected to RemoteRig, all working very good.
Having a spare Kenwood TS-870 I would like to explore SO2R.
I do understand the concept but all it seems more complicated due to remote configuration.
Is someone willing to share from his experience?
I'm thinking at MicroHam micro2R, eventually selling TS-870 for another TS-480SAT.
Is it possible to connect MicroHam micro2R on the RRC control side?

Thank you for any suggestion!

Hello,

I'm running the latest RRC firmware (2.87) and I've encounter a strange issue running N1MM+ with RemoteRig.
N1MM+ stop sending in the middle of the message, for example if I'm running in RUN mode F1 should send as per my CQ config file:

test yo3irm

but it send:

test yo3irm
test yo
test
test yo3irm
test y
.............

I've troubleshoot this with Steve from N1MM team and he found to be an issue with RemoteRig
See his comments below in the ErrorLog.txt from N1MM+

Quote
Here's what happened, with my comments.

- N1MM+ starts sending TEST YO3IRM to Winkey (RemoteRig). Good.

- Winkey starts echoing back characters as they are sent. Good.

- Winkey reports that it has stopped sending. Bad. It has not finished echoing characters back to N1MM+. It should not report that it has stopped sending until after all characters have been sent, and the echo characters have been sent back to N1MM+. Receiving this prematurely also starts the CQ repeat timer prematurely, leading to the next CQ starting too soon.

  Winkey HandleStatus = 0

I see this pattern throughout the log file. It needs to be fixed by RemoteRig.

Any suggestion ?
Could be something on my RRC configuration ?

Thank you

Hi,

is it possible with AS-1289 + RRC 1258MkIIs (TS-480) and actual firmware to configure one antenna for RX and another antenna for TX ?
For example I would like to automatically use my dipole for 40m RX and my Vertical antenna for 40m TX.
If not, is it possible this with a future firmware update?

Thank you!

General discussion forum / AS-1289 RF issues
« on: 2015-06-18, 12:28:56 »
Hello,

I would like to consider an AS-1289 antenna switch for my remote location.
I've read a couple of month ago on this forum about a RF issue with this product and some manual intervention to correct it.
Is this issue corrected at the factory on the current AS-1289 products ?

I would also like to know if there is a power supply included when you buy the antenna switch or this should be ordered separately.
(Is this ok to connect the antenna switch to the shack power supply (13.8V) ?)

From the product picture I cannot see a point where you can connect the box to the ground, is there such a point ?

Thank you

General discussion forum / TS-480 JMP2 position
« on: 2015-02-01, 18:29:54 »
Hello,

I've started to configure my TS-480SAT to work with RRC. Reading through manual I found a mismatch regarding JMP2 that will select 8 or 9V.
On the RRC-1258 MKII manual, pag 23:
"JMP-2 is used to select if the DC-power to the front panels should be 8 or 9 V. With the strap in place it will be 8V, which fits all ICOM radios. Without the strap the voltage will be 9V, which fits Kenwood TS-480 and RC-2000 panels that need 9V for the back-lighter"
So, for  TS-480, I understand that JMP2 should not be connected.

On page 182, "Kenwood TS-480", first of all it should be a mistake regarding radios serial number:
"New radios with serial number from 70600056 are using Configuration type 1 and older radios with serial number below are using configuration type 2."

70600056 is not a serial number specific to TS-480 radios, for example my TS-480 serial number is starting with B48..... and it is manufactured in 2014, so I can consider is a new radio and should use "Configuration Type 1"

On this page, 182, on the table specific to Configuration Type 1, JMP2 is 1 (In place) that means we are using 8V for the front panel, but on page 23, for the same TS-480, it is specified JMP2 -> 0 (not connected).
Which one is the correct position ?

Thank you!

Hardware, Cabling, Installations / wattmeter/swr control
« on: 2014-10-09, 18:38:16 »
Hi,

I would like to use RRC with TS-480 at the control station, at remote location I would like to control an antenna rotator (Yaesu G-450C) and also connect to RS232 a wattmeter/swr like LP-100A or array solution Powermeter.

On my laptop at the control station I would like to see the bar graph from wattmeter/swr, I have only usb on my laptop.
Is this combination possible, is anyone using a rotator control and a swr/wattmeter through remoterig ?

Thank you

Hi,

I would like to use webswitch 1216H to power on/off my Kenwood TS870.
My concern is related to the current drain, in the transceiver documentation it states that the current drain is 20.5A for TX and 2 A for RX.
I see that the webswitch 1216H is rated for 16A, I don't know if it has also a fuse for 16A.

It seems there are many use of this webswitch to power on/off other transceivers and I think all have current drain grater than 16A on TX.

Thanks for any explanation/advice !

General discussion forum / Kenwood remote config
« on: 2014-01-31, 10:39:34 »
Hello,

before asking my questions, I will present my current shack configuration:
Transceiver - Kenwood TS870
microHam Digikeyer II
   - connect to serial port, ACC, key, RTTY on TRX
   - it gives me COM ports via USB for WinKeyer, PTT/CAT/FSK
   - it also gives in/out audio for digital modes
LP-PAN 2 + Soundcard EMU0204
   - connects to TRX IF out
   - connects to USB port, used for SDR software, band waterfall display

Software - DXLab Suite
   - control radio via CAT
   - send CW through microHam Digikeyer II Winkeyer
   - used for digital modes
Software - NaP3, CWskimmer
   - SDR application
   - audio input from EMU 0204
   - display band waterfall & find CW spots (http://youtu.be/YfkWBaR72cQ)

I would like to setup a remote station and I would like to know if RemoteRig solution can give me at least a couple of features that I am using now.
I'm working 99.99% CW.

Reading about RemoteRig solution seems that it is simple to configure if you use only the transceiver and an external key.
My questions:
1. Is it possible to integrate in this solution, microHam DigiKeyer II ?
   - I would like to have the possibility to use DXLab Suite program or N1MM to control my rig and send CW. Perhaps I don't need microHam for this but I'm not sure.
2. Can I use digital modes with RemoteRig ?
   - DXLab suite has a nice module for digital modes also FLDIGI, can I use this programs with RemoteRig ?
3. This one I don't think is possible but I will ask to be sure. Is it possible to transport audio from the output of my EMU 0204 soundcard to the control station through RemoteRig ?

Thank you for your feedback !
