Can you elaborate a little more?

On the Icom 706 there is a keyer setting and if you set it to OFF, it's for a straight key.  That should be easy to change.  In the Icom manual it shows two different wiring configurations for wiring the keyer plug, one for paddle and one for straight key.  On the radio remoterig, I have a 3.5mm stereo plug going into the PAD plug and then the 1/4" stereo plug going into the Icom keyer plug.  So when wiring for the straight key, do I need to wire it for a straight key coming from the keyer at the control side into the PAD connection on the control remoterig?  Or do I need to actually modify the wire at the radio end from the remoterig PAD jack to the keyer jack?

I assume follow all the other steps on the remoterig, like enabling the keyer on the control side and setting the OUT1 and OUT2 to keyer on the radio side.

Thanks for the help so far - any more information to help would be great!

Hi all - Considering trying CW with my remoterig setup (706 mkiig).  I have an old Heathkit HD-1410 electronic keyer (http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/808).  Will an electronic keyer work with the remoterig, which also acts as an electronic keyer?  Any help/settings would be appreciated if it's possible for it to work.

Thanks!
- Dave

Hi Paul/Mike,

I do currently power the Icom 706 and Remoterig from the same power supply.  I'm guessing that a ground wire was not hooked up to the back of the radio to ground (I didn't hook up the radio at the remote site myself).  Could that be causing the problem?

Thanks, Dave

Hi Paul - I lowered the codec out gain and that solved the problem!!  After several values, I ended up with 220 to pretty much eliminate the humming noise.  I still have more than adequate output volume (even though the manual says to keep it at 255).

Thank you!!

Thanks for the replies.  I do not have any USB connections to the remoterig.  I tried connecting the speaker to the SP port on the remoterig box and got the same humming noise.  I believe I have the latest firmware (2.42).

Any other thoughts?  The humming isn't overbearing, but can definitely be heard.

Thanks!

Hi Mike, the dropouts are very short, well under 1 second.  They happen approx every 30 seconds or so.  The dropout time is the same everytime it happens.  Any ideas?

When I'm using my 706mkiig remoterig setup on HF, on 80M (that's the only band I've noticed so far), when I'm transmitting, I see random characters come up on the 706 screen and sometimes the screen even flashes.  Any idea what is causing this?  Is it RF getting into the cable between the 706 radio and remoterig box?  If so, can I wrap a ferrite core around it to help?  Any other thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi all - when I'm running my Icom 706mkiig remoterig setup, I get very short audio dropouts (less than 1 sec) randomly, no more than once every 30 seconds.  I've tried to bump up the jitter delay/buffer on both sides to 10/8 but I still hear it.  Should I continue increasing this number or is there something else I may be missing?  I see no light change on the remoterig box when the audio dropout happens.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi all - I have a remoterig setup using an Icom 706 MKIIG.  On the control side, I have a small speaker plugged into the 706 faceplate in the Phones jack.  If I have the volume all the way down on the Icom, I hear a humming noise through the speaker.  I've tried to use headphones instead and I hear the humming through there as well.

Any suggestions?  Is there a setting or something that may help resolve this?

Thanks!
