Suppose the computer at the control site goes down.
Is there any easy way to have backed up files so these can just be restored or migrated to another computer?
What would be the best procedure here?

General discussion forum / software control of CW remoterig
« on: 2013-05-19, 19:16:00 »
I am wondering if there is a way to allow software (for example Windwarbler of DXLABS, or n1mm) to key the RRC-1258 for CW operation.
I have a K3 setup.

Is anyone controlling the DXE 4 sq receive antenna via Remoterig?

Does Hughesnet provide quick enough internet service to be satisfactory for RTTY and SSB?
I am experiencing problems with CenturyTel (QWEST) on these two modes.  Upload speed seems too slow.

I have RRC-1258 which is configured for k3.   If it has nothing plugged into it, except for power.  Almost exactly 30 minutes after it is powered on I see the lights on the front panel over AUXMIC blink.  This happens every 30 minutes as if it it is restarting.  Power supply is Astron. Is there a reason for this?

The rotor interface graphic allows one to enter the direction for rotation.
The DX View application of DXLABS suite gives the short and long path for an antity that you have clicked on in DX View.
It would be great if someone made the short path  be automatically inserted into the rotor interface graphic.
Maybe some brilliant person will give this a look.

Is there a programatic interface one can use to communicate with the software that generates the rotor graphic?

General discussion forum / 12v Power Supply Precaution
« on: 2012-10-27, 15:50:17 »
I use a hefty open frame relay to turn on the majority of the AC to my station at the antenna farm.  This controls the power supply for the transceiver, automatic antenna switch, rotor, etc.  And another open frame relay is used to turn on AC for the ACOM.  I was experiencing hum in the audio at the control location, particularly when I turned on the ACOM power relay.  It was not a killer, just an aggrivation.  I found the hum was eliminated when I used a quality power source to supply the 12v used for the relay coils.
I had been using a 1 amp power brick.   I switched to a small Astron supply which I keep on all the time to supply wakeup voltages as well as coil voltages.  Use a quality filtered source for your coil supply voltages.

At the control end, I am asking for best reccomendation -- how to interface to my router wirelessly.  It is about 60 feet away in another building.

1. I am testing now K3-K3 both 1258s connected to a router.
With only the 1258 plugged into the home rs232, all is well - k3s communicate.
With only the steppir plugged into the rs232, the steppir works correctly.
When I plug both into the k3 rs22 with a splitter, the control k3 does not communicate with the home k3.
Does this mean the only way to do steppir control is with a RRC1216H, and then the splitter will work?

2. Green Heron - can it be connected to com1 of the 1258 or is a RC-1216H required?

3. Also implementing RC-1216H control of ACOM 2000a.  It has an RS232 connector.

4. Using an RCS-12 automatic antenna switch which has an RS232 connector.

Will all three of these plug into the RS232 with a 4 way splitter?
Right now I have two 1216H units.  Will I need more?

At the moment I am looking at K3 to K3 setup, but have equipment coming to include ACOM 2000A and Steppir and Green Heron., and AC Outlets.
I do not want a computer running at the HOME RADIO site, just my CISCO LINKSYS WRT610N router.
I am trying to do those things needed to allow me to always contact my router even if it has been restarted and/or the ip address has changed.

When I look at the DDNS tab on my router, that service is currently disabled, but I have only two other choices DnyDNS.com and TZO.com.
It appears I must register my router with one of them.  But these sites seem to be registering a HOST, and presumes I can run their program in the background to keep things updated.

I must be  going down the wrong path here.  Can someone help my thinking here.
