General discussion forum / Re: Remoterig READ THIS!

I agree completely.
I get quick responses to my dumb questions.
Remoterig is the best thing that has happened to ham radio in years.

General discussion forum / new computer
« on: 2014-02-24, 20:50:57 »
At the control station I am moving to a new computer.
Are there gotchas to look out for?

33
It seems after transmitting, I have to touch rf gain to re-establish the correct volume level.
Is there a parm or technique that will help?  K3 to k3.

I have a setup that recycles power on my modem and router at the antenna site every 24 hours.
That reset has occurred.
Now all is working as it should.

35
I checked the local connecting cable from rrc-1258 to router with a cable tester, and it is OK.
Power cycled modem and rrc-1258.
I just retested as 23:10 UCT and it is unchanged.
I can connect to the rotor when the rrc-1258 is off.

I have been contacting the home station my using xxx.ddns.webswitch.se:81/ for a couple of years.
This morning using ddns.webswitch.se I get a "page not found".
Attempting to address the amplifier, I also get "page not found."  If I enter the address in the URL numerically as
xx.xxx.xx.xx:81/ I get the expected face of the rotor, and I can manipulate it.  Simularly for the amplifier.
When I "display system info" for these devices, I get "Last dynamic DNS status error code=13".  I do not know what meaning this has.
I also hit the "restart device" but afterwards things were unchanged.

Now the bigger problem:
Normally I click the power switch on the rotor icon, and everything I need becomes powered on. Live update is green. Then I push power on for my transceiver, and in a few seconds, contact is made and all is well.  However today I am getting the three tones Low, Middle, High from the RRC-1258 indicating some connection is not being made.  I think this is "failure to connect" tone.

1. Is there anything I can do from here (Control) to trouble shoot this?
2. If I send someone in my home location, what should they look for?
3. Why is ddns.webswitch.se not working?

My "problem" with turning a Green Heron motor is minor, but I have not found a solution.
When I bring up the website for the rotor, it automatically starts turning to 45 degrees.
All I want to do is stop the turning until I input a value and start the rotor on my own.
I bet the answer is easy ... but I have not found it.

Suppose the computer at the control site goes down.
Is there any easy way to have backed up files so these can just be restored or migrated to another computer?
What would be the best procedure here?

General discussion forum / software control of CW remoterig
« on: 2013-05-19, 19:16:00 »
I am wondering if there is a way to allow software (for example Windwarbler of DXLABS, or n1mm) to key the RRC-1258 for CW operation.
I have a K3 setup.

This may be too complex for me.  BCD is needed to control the array.  I assume the BCD character needed is created by which of the lines carry voltages in combination.
So the 4 square control box is replaced or paralleled by internet controlled relays.  This is probably an easy project for Engineers, not so easy for music majors.

Is anyone controlling the DXE 4 sq receive antenna via Remoterig?

It seems my Century Telephone (QWEST) 1.5 M DSL will work OK now that all the fixes are in place.
You really DO need the PK5000 modem.  Otherwise you will experience sometimes on sometimes maybe.  Then you need a quality feed line between the termination point and your PK5000.  And be sure all filters of anykind have been removed from the line, especially phone line filters - else your uplink speed will be a tenth of what it should be.   I am experiencing download speed of approx 1.3 MB and upload speeds approaching 700 Khz.

43
Based on your comments, I have delayed the Hughesnet install.  I want to fully test the 1.5M DSL with the new modem, and see if I can trade download speed for upload speed, or whatever, to use the DSL.   I much prefer this if it can work.

I have not seen the minimum bandwidth settings, so they would be appreciated. It might be a good thing to publish them here in case others have internet issues.  I have had no issues with download speeds that I can identify.

I come to Yuma AZ in the winter.
I am going to test Century Link 1.5M DSL (Yuma, AZ RV Park) and Hughnet  1 Meg side by side.  I am going to use the modem Century Tel recommends (PK5000) so they can not hide behind "wrong modem" excuse.  That is as fast as I can get for DSL in this RV park.
And I have a 30 day test window for HughesNet, at 1 M speed but faster upload speed (.2 Meg).  The problem so far is that Century Tel upload speeds have been about .05 Meg. This makes RTTY go at about 1 character per second, and is impossible for SSB.   I think I might be better able to work with latency  rather than with impossibly slow upload speed.

45
Does Hughesnet provide quick enough internet service to be satisfactory for RTTY and SSB?
I am experiencing problems with CenturyTel (QWEST) on these two modes.  Upload speed seems too slow.
