Hi,

you must have some kind of router at your cottage, as you are also accessing your remote station from outside. What about using the DNS Server in that router? Maybe you should check the instruction manual of your router to see if it allows you to enter additional data for the local subnet.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Re: Failed firmware update on 1258
« on: 2011-05-24, 09:09:55 »
Hi Steve,

do an initial setup of the boxes (at least IP address and subnet mask) via USB so that you can access the boxes via LAN. Then update the firmware via the web interface of the box. There was a bug in the firmware related to updating via USB. It is solved from V2.36 on (see change notes in V2.36).

General discussion forum / Re: CAT control via USB
« on: 2011-05-06, 12:30:33 »
Hi,

haven't tested myself, but thought that this option only affects the control side, i.e. no need for a RS232-to-USB converter on the control side, but on the radio side you still use COM2. So no spare port! Please correct me if I'm wrong.

General discussion forum / Re: connecting to the RRC boxes

Hi Steve,

I've seen that also when trying to downgrade the firmware of my boxes. Connect your PC to the console port (COM1) of the boxes using a serial cable and use hyperterm to see what the box is doing (COM1 has the following settings: 38400 baud, 8 bits, No parity, and 1 stop bit.).

Hi,

when using VOX check the "Continuous RTP Tx" Setting. See manual page 47!

General discussion forum / Re: UBox Application Software
« on: 2011-03-14, 09:17:12 »
Hi Joni,

how much is the Ubox loading your access line (capacity wise) ? I have a 1M/512 line to radio side only.
Ubox seems a discontinued product.

that depends on what "services" you are running over the Ubox. I have a Microham MKII and a USB2Serial converter connected to it. Due to the latency over the internet (30ms in my case) I can only use CAT and Winkey from the MKII. This consumes only very little bandwidth.

Hi Chris,

I'm using a UBox in my Remote-Station. The latest software can be found at http://ltxfaq.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1154.

BTW: Has anyone tried to use the UBox on a Win7 System?

Hi,

see page 151 in the manual. There you can find a list of all possible codings and the required bandwidth.
To get a estimate of datavolume needed use the following formula:

(Bandwidth [kbps] * 3600)/(8 * 1024)

For example: Mode 7 will give you around 100MB per hour.

Thanks Jan,

now I know what it is meant for. So when using a fixed IP it can remain empty.

Hi Kai,

BUT,
what is with the web adress "afu-kw.XXX.hs-bremen.de"
 and
what is with Extern IP/Host AND Own host name in the Radio box setting?

maybe the web address is simply a static DNS name for the IP address you
have been supplied. Just use nslookup to check this.

To be honest I don't know about the Extern IP/Host setting, but as far as I
remember it is not used at all (neither with DynDNS nor with static IPs).

Hello Kai,

Quote
Ok, netmask, gateway and IP i have to fill in by the settings of the radio box - no problem.
But what do i have to do under control settings with SIP contact?
And also what is to do in the radio box with DNS server, Extern IP/Host and Own host name?
And where do i have to fill in the server adress afu-kw.XXX.hs-bremen.de?

For the SIP contact just use the IP address provided by the university, i. e. 194.94.XXX.184
I think you don't need a DNS server setting in the radio RRC so I would simply leave that field
empty. But if you feel better with DNS ;) just ask the IT for the list of DNS servers they have
and choose one of them.

What about the DNS settings in your RRC? Are they correct?

Configuration of Routers, Firewalls, etc / UMTS-USB-Sticks
« on: 2011-02-03, 14:22:12 »
Hi everybody,

from some discussions in this forum and from fotos of reference installations I've seen that some of you are using the Dovado UMR router to connect either the remote or local RRC to the internet via UMTS. I'm interested in what Model of UMTS-USB-Stick you are using with the Dovado UMR? I'm especially interested in Sticks that offer the possibility to connect an external antenna.

Hi Kurt,

the IC706 klicks when turned on. What about the fan. Does it work after turning on the TRX? What does the status page of the remote RRC say about the radio status?
