Mike, any ideas or comments?

A feature that I really would like to see is a K1EL (compatible) chip in the keyer, ready to connect to N1MM or other contest or logging software.

General discussion forum / Re: TS-480 RFI - more information
« on: 2010-08-23, 08:34:49 »
The receive side of my system has been superb, but I have had serious problems with RFI when transmitting and have had to install a large number of ferrites to get to the stage of being able to transmit at the 100w level.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to solve this problem??

I had the same problem but where able to cure most of it. I am now running the station at the gain/ALC levels intended and only have RFI problems on 40 meter which I credit to the antenna layout rather than the Remoterig / TS-480 combination. In short the fix was to turn off the "Codec inp preamp" setting in Remoterig and compensate gain in the radio.

Have a look at this message;

My MkII boxes have not been modified in the audio chain as suggested by Mike, I don't dare to mess with it as it works quite well right now.

Is it just me or is the keyer a little "slippery" in B mode? I am used to Winkeyer (and Yaesu keyers which seems very similar to Winkeyer) and find the Remoterig keyer requiring a very precise release of paddles to avoid an extra dash or dot.

Is there any way to use Winkeyer with Remoterig? That would be useful with contest software or maybe someone...

What provisions are available for selecting the right ant. automatically whenever the the band is changed on the 480 control head? deSanford W6YY

The simplest solution is to use a band decoder available as a kit or ready made unit. It will decode your radios band output and control the relays on an antenna switch. If you are using a FK-1A (or any other) amplifier with a built in antenna switch you might not even need the band decoder depending on your antenna setup.

I reduced the mic gain slightly

Try turn the "Codec inp gain" setting off on the radio side, this cured my RF feedback problems. It seems like the combination of RRC and TS-480 is very sensitive to RF feedback.

Tony,

Idiom Press markets a rotator interface kit and you might already have a rotator supported by them. Have a look at;

Maybe you could ask the question to Kenwood's EU office in Holland. Maybe they could consider selling the remote head as a spare part. I am sure they have been asked before in relation to theft or broken units.

This problem has been resolved.

It was not caused by the D-Link router, it was probably the effect of another part of the link messing up the ports. With the mentioned normal port forwarding settings for SIP, control and audio ports the router works fine for Remoterig. It is not necessary to place the Remoterig interface in the DMZ zone as suggested, just use port forwarding.

Here's an update on the feedback problem:

I have been able to remove all feedback on most bands by turning the setting for "Codec inp preamp" in the Remoterig control unit to "No" and then re-adjust the microphone level to 25 without speech processor and 55 with speech processor activated.

With those settings I have reduced the RF feedback to a minimum on all bands except on 40 meters where I still have occasional feedback when the speech processor is in line.

I have asked Mike how this affects the S/N ratio on the link and waiting for an answer, but so far the audio reports received have been positive.

Hej,

Är det någon som kör en DLink 2640B ADSL router på radiosidan? Har lite utmaningar att komma igenom utifrån och behöver lite tips och inspiration.

I am using stereo audio with my K3 and have no problem with bandwidth, currently I am using IPSound for this. But this would not be limited to K3 users, anyone with a dual RX radio would benefit from dual channel sound.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the feedback. The station has a ground system with two ground rods outside the shack and all equipment grounded. Cabling is Aircom Plus or RG213 with good quality connectors soldered both tip and shield. The high band antenna is a SteppIR and for 80/40 a wire vertical with 16 ground radials and a RF Choke on the Coax.

My K3 and other radios have been working fine with only occasional RF feedback on 40 using high power, but with the TS-480 the setup is extremely sensitive to RF Feedback, even at lowest power of 5 watts on 40.

When disconnecting the audio cable to the Remoterig interface and connecting the microphone directly to the radio there is no feedback.

I am not surprised that I get RF feedback on lower bands, but on higher bands it should not be a problem and I have never experienced it before with any radio. I also noticed the feedback when testing the setup on a small balcony antenna in the city, but as I was powering all units from the same PSU I though that was the problem.

Anyone with ideas how to cure the TS-480 from RF feedback?

SIP ALG has been switched off on both routers.
