I had been using HRD to control my Omni07 remotely through my RR 1258 modems as my previous program N4PY had some difficulty operating through the the RR 1258 serial link. Unfortunately the latest 5.2 release of HRD I loaded on my computer crashed  so I tried to go back to N4PY while HRD fixed the problem.

Well it turns out the same problem still exists with N4PY and the RR 1258 in that after a period of operating well the link to the radio hangs up and it takes a while for it to get restablished. Commands also appear to get scrabbled at times during this disconnect.

Is there any chance that the folks at RR could have a look at why this happens and perhaps resolve it as I would prefer to use the N4PY package with the Omni 07?

I see that the PC Client dongle is supposed to operate with other control software packages than HRD, but there is no mention of that for the 1258's.

How about adding N4PY's control software to the list Mike??

I'd like to use it with my Omni 07 but it has problems working with my RRC 1258 modems, the RRC PC Client would be prefered as the control modem.

Hi Thor ---

I wonder what radio you are using the N4PY software with? I tried to use it with an Omni 07 remoted through a pair of RR modems and it kept hanging up on me.

I've been running an OMNI 07 with HRD using the serial port quite successfully for about 6 months because I could never get good TX audio with the internal TT modem. The TX audio with the RR modems is superb.

Not sure how close the Omni 07 is with the Orion but I would suspect if it will run with HRD with the serial port it should be possible to use the RR modems. I use program 4 which is generic to most rigs.

Be happy to supply any farther info off line.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Omni VII

I'm looking for help in connecting my pair of RRC 1258 modems to my Omni VII as there isn't much info on using these modems with Ten Tec radio's.

I've programmed my modems along the lines of a Yaesu (Mode 3) with some changes suggested by Mikael.

The problem I am having at the moment is connecting my control modem to my laptop and then to the remote. I think I have the right data in but I can't get the modem to send data out to the remote. I am using N4PY's control program which I have used before to control my OMNI VII.

I am using a USB cable to the mini USB port on the modem and I have the option to do that activated in the program on the COM2 page. I have the right vitual COM port highlighted in the N4PY program so I assume the USB connection should be programmed properly.

At this point I'm lost!!
