Ciao Enzo,

Continuiamo cosi a sperimentare "in remoto"

Hello Enzo,
Glad to read you here. It took me a few minutes to "understood" the Special Call that ends with "UB" as the initial of a great italian Antenna!

I have read with interest what you wrote and, like I said you, I have followed the same way too two months ago when i downloaded the UB Remote Controller.

Many thanks for the great tips you gave me in order to "Tune Up" "your" UB-50

I'll continue to experience such "remote experience" in the future.

Per ulteriori info contattami by e-mail.
Your truly IZ7ANL Nicola

I own a UltraBeam UB-50 Dinamic antenna.
As for the SteppIR product, UltraBeam has released a Remote Control software that allows users to operate the UB-50 remotely.

I've tried the cables and the RS-232 setup (directly from my PC) and all works fine. So the setup is OK on the PC Side.

I've spent the last 7 hours to try to use the Ultra Beam control software over the RS-232 interface of my Remote Rig but without results.

I've tried (i think) all the possible set-up but nothing. I'm going crazy because i don't know where to find a solution.

I'v also searched in the Forum but i didn't find any practical help.

Here is my setup:

- Remote Rig RRC-1258 with sw 2.36 on booth
- TS- 480 SAT (works perfectly in my setup)
- 1 Straight RS-232 cable connected from RRig COM1Radio Side  to the RS-232 port of the UltraBeam Controller
- 1 Straight RS-232 cable connected from RRig COM1Control Side  to the RS-232 port of my PC running Win XP SP 3

I've tried some protocols in the "Serial Settings" RRig WEB interface.
I think the right one should be this:

- COM1 Mode: 3 char-timeout
- Baud Rate 9600
- DataBits: 8
- Stop Bits 1
- Parity: 0 Off
- Com1 RTS/CTS: No

But with these settings the Control Software doesn't work.

Could someone help me let me know what is the exact protocol i have to use (i will have the same problem remoting a Yaesu Rotor) and if i'm using the right cables (i've read on the Foru that COM1 and COM2 use different configuration).

Many thanks

General discussion / Micro PC Client and Kenwood ARCP-2000
« on: 2011-03-01, 14:35:27 »
I've very appreciated the last release of the PC Client (1.1.1 and 1.1.2).
Many thanks for the new user interface and more.... Now is really more practical to use.

I'm an active user of the PC Client but i experience problems using the TS-2000 with HRD 5 (slow, some radio funcitions are not recognised, ecc ecc).

Do you plan to let the the PC Client to operate with ARCP 2000 (or ARCP 480)?

I think i'm not the only one that feels the need of such a feature.

Tnx for the great job!

Hello Jan.

Is not the first time that this happens. I'm a 47 old computer tecnician and i assisted to several situations like this.

I don't know why (and i'm sure the cause is not for a communication failure) but removing the Sw and reintslling it from scratch has resolved the problem (for me the most important thing).

Franco: It sounds very unlikely that a PC program should be able to damage itself just because of a communication failure  ;)

Bob: Win XP pre SP3 is known for having USB issues. I would recommended SP3.

I have new units (stereo) that came with 2.25.  When I tried to update to 2.27 with the Setup Manager, it failed to program.  However, when I ran the update through the web interface, it appeared to work fine (both units).

Any reason to be concerned?

Bob

Hello Bob.
Yesterday i had the same problem with both units.

I resolved in this way:

1) I removed the SetUp Manager SW using the Windows Tools
2) I removed the RRC (Radio or Control) from the USB then i restart the PC
3) I reinstalled the Set Up Manager SW (latest version)
4) I Restart the PC
5) I attached the USB cable and the RRC
6) I update the firmware

After that all worked fine.
I think the Set Up Manager Software damaging itself after some "failed" FMW update. IMHO

Sorry for my poor English.

Interesting! What "interface problems" did you experience?

Hello Jan.
I'm using the latest Fmw update 0.0.2.27 on the RRC Radio side and the lastest Micro PC Client software 1.0.22

ARCSII is very very slow. Sometimes it freeze when i try to Start or Stop the connection with the TS-2000. Some function are really slow (lwhen load the radio internal memory).
I think this is due to the very slow serial connection of the RRC + Micro PC Client (only 9.600 Baud).

I've tried to speed up the serial transfert using a 19.200 Baud link but ARCS II refuse to connect (HRD 5 also doesn't work).
This is the limit of the menù setup "4 - Kenwood, Yaesu, Alinco".

If i use ARCS II with a direct serial cable connection using 57.000 baud, the software operate correctly.
So i think is a really speed problem and not a "virtual port" problem as Guy said. IMHO.

Just a question for Jan:
Is there any way to "renumber" the Serial Port of the Micro PC Client?
In my EeePC the installer assign port 16 17 18. Too high for some software. I don't understand why the Micro PC installer use these "high" ports.
Is possibile to renumber the Serial ports on XP using a tool or a software?

I use XP Home Edition on the EeePC.

I continue to experiment.

Hello,
As we know, ARCP-2000 is not compatible with the RRC Micro PC Client due to some problem in the way it operate with RS-232.

As i'm not a fan of HRD, i've found on the Web another software that drives the TS-2000. ARCS II by WB5KIA

http://www.qsl.net/wb5kia/arcs/arcslite.htm

This software is quite similar to ARCP-2000 by Kenwood but is more complex to use (has more facilites than ARCP-2000).

So i've tried to use it with my PC Client and Sw Beta 1.22 and after finishing the set up, ARCS II worked perfectly (It switch On & Off the Rtx, use the internal memory and display their name, ecc).

The only drawback is the stability. I experienced some problem with the interface and i killed the app several time.

Maybe is a problem of my Eee PC with Atom Processor.

I'd like to shar with others my experience.

Hello,
i'd like to know if the RRC-Micro PC Client works with the Kenwood ARCP-2000 software (TS-2000).

I know that HRD works fine but i'm more interested to use ARCP-2000.
Has someone had experience with this set-up?

Another question to Mike: is there any plan to let ARCP-480 works with RRC-Micro PC Client?

Many thanks.

Thank you Mitch for you suggestion.

If you are talking about the use of the ARCP 2000 or HRD in order to remote the TS-2000 with RRigs, i agree with you.

As i own a Kenwood TM-D710 my goal would be to use the front panel of the 710 with TS-2000 (like the TS-480 do).

I think that both Front Panel are quite similar and so i was wondering if some mods are necessary use it with my RRigs.

The other way around works for sure, see page 54 of the RC-2000 manual:

"CONCERNING THE TM-D700A/E PANEL
The RC-2000 control panel can be used in place of the
TM-D700A/E panel. Switch the TM-D700A/E OFF then
remove the TM-D700A/E panel. Plug the RC-2000
panel and press  (POWER). The RC-2000 panel
automatically detects the TM-D700A/E transceiver and
will operate the same as the original TM-D700A/E panel."

General discussion forum / Control Panel TM-D710 and TS-2000

Hello,
i'm wondering about the possibility to use the TM-D710 panel display to remote a TS-2000 via the RemoteRIG (instead a RC-2000 display)
I've read that also the TM-D710 panel display can be used with a TS-2000 but i with no evidence of this.

Any one had an experience using this combination?

Thank you.
