General / Re: Frequency Readout Problems
« on: 2015-04-13, 00:34:27 »
The frequency readout worked OK yesterday for a short while, then began to act up.  Tuning the knob did not cause a smooth up or down of the frequency readout.  Sometimes the readout just randomly changed while turning the dial in the same direction.

General / Frequency Readout Problems
« on: 2015-04-10, 17:18:20 »
I'm using a Nextbook NX7000C tablet and the latest version Kenwood Nano software.  I am finding the frequency control problematic and erratic.  This morning, I can connect to the TS-480SAT remote station and see the last frequency that I left the station on.  Turning the dial does nothing.  Entering the frequency manually does change the frequency of the radio (I can hear the difference in the received signal) but the frequency readout does not update.  The frequency readout stays at the same frequency all the time.  There are times in the past when it worked correctly.

Any ideas what is wrong?

What improvements are in this release?  Do I need to just update the Kenwood App?

Thanks, Joe

The Nano app seems to be working now.  VFO A was the answer, so I'll have to be careful to leave the TS-480 in VFO A after use with the control1258 and head.

The next problem that I have is that the radio is overmodulating on transmit.  It appears that the mike setting for the control head and the Nano are going to be different.

Things I would like to see:
1) Ability to switch between VFO A and B
2) Mike gain control
3) Ability to activate Antenna tuner
4) Ability to switch between Antenna 1 and 2

The application looks very encouraging.  I can see many times that I would use it for, even if just to test the remote base station.  I look forward to future improvements.

Thanks to the people at Microbit and Remoterig for the help with this problem.

I thought you were asking about the Nano version of software I was using, so I gave you a description of my tablet and version of Android and RCC-Nano software.

With the RCC-1258 now on version 2.84 and the RCC-Nano on version 1.1.0, I am still having the frequency control problem.  When I turn the dial the frequency display on the Nano changes but the frequency does not change on the remote radio.  Whwn I manually enter a new frequency on the display area the radio does not tune to that frequency.

I hope that clears things up?

I don't understand your question.  If you are asking if the problem is frequency control, yes this is the problem.  Someone mentioned that VFO B may be the problem.  I cannot verify that the TS-480 is in VFO A or B at this time.

General / Tuning knob not changing frequency
« on: 2015-02-12, 01:18:53 »
The tuning knob worked briefly, then stopped working.  The display changes, but the radio stays on the same frequency.  The BAND change, Volume, S meter, etc are working, so it looks like the CAT connection is working.  Also, entering the frequency manually changes the readout on the app, but the radio does not tune to the new frequency.

This is happening on two separate stations, Elecraft and Kenwood.  RRC1258 units were all upgraded to version 2.84 software.  I'm using a Nextbook 7 tablet with Andriod 4.4.2 KitKat.  I can supply connect info if someone from Remoterig or Microbit want to try and connect.  The Nano App is version1.1.0

The existing version 2.55 software is almost 3 years old.  Would there be any problem that you can see to upgrade directly to version 2.83?  Anything I am missing before I attempt this, like bootloader update or anything?

Thanks, Joe, K1ike

I only have web server access at this time.  I don't know if I can upgrade over this connection, I'll have to look into it.  Right now, as I stated, the access road to the site is snowbound and not easily passable at this time.   (I'll be 68 in a few days and would like to make it to that day!)

The Control 1258 has the same versions of software in it, I wonder if I will have to upgrade the Control unit to make it compatible with the Radio unit?  The Control unit is now 1,000 miles away at another hams QTH.  Can I run 2.83 at the Radio 1258 and 2.55 at the Control 1258 without a problem?  I'll eventually be able to upgrade the Control 1258.

FYI, the site radio 1258 is:

Software   2.55
Bootloader   1.9
Compiler   4.6.2
Build   Feb 22 2012 09:52:28

I haven't done any upgrades because it has been function fine since the day we bought it.

I feel confident that COM2 is working properly as my MicroPC-Client is working with the Kenwood software.  The Kenwood software is able to control the TS480 with no problems.

If you look at my previous attachment, you will see that the baud rate is set to 9600 on both COM1 and COM2. I use COM1 at the radio end to control an Ameritron amplifier band switching device.  This has been working OK for over 6 months with both the MicroPC--Client and the remote control head.

The interesting thing is that I am getting audio on the Nano App.  It is connecting OK, I see a frequency readout that is accurate (only when I first connect), the RX S-meter is working, Band changing is working, Mode is working, volume control working, etc.  The only problem appears to be in frequency control and frequency readout.  I can see the Nano display change frequency as I tune the dial but the radio does not change frequency.  If I band change, I can hear the audio difference between bands, but the display does not update.  The display is erratic at times when you tune.

I would be willing to send my information to RemoteRig or Microbit for testing.

The remote site is presently snowed in, so I will have to do my troubleshooting remotely.

Thanks, Joe, K1ike

I bought a Nextbook 7 tablet, Andriod version 4.4.2, today at Walmart.  I was able to load the two Remoterig apps onto it.  I am controlling a TS-480SAT.  The app connected to the remote station and gave a readout of the frequency that the TS-480 was last on.  Audio works OK.  What I can't do is change frequency with either the knob or the direct entry mode.  I am able to switch bands, but the readout does not update with new frequency readout.  I can tell that the band is switching by the audio change when I use the Band up or down arrows.  I believe that I have the comports set up correctly.

I see one big drawback to me using this app.  I need to be able to activate the Antenna Tuner in the radio as I move around the band.

I tried to go to the free app you sent the link for and came up with:

Maybe a typo in the URL?
