Webswitch 1216H
« on: 2012-07-13, 21:38:16 »
Our club recently installed a Kenwood TS480SAT with a Remoterig for remote operation and all is working well.We now are trying to install A Webswich 1216H for rotator control. The rotator is a HyGain Tailtwister T2XD with a DCU digital control unit.I was told to buy the RS-232 Adapter cable 1216S when I bought the Webswitch. I can't figure out how to connect the end of the cable that has what looks like a header connector to the Webswitch. I would appreciate some help.

Activated Webswitch and it is turning the rotator. We can enter the setting in the lower right box or press the presets and the rotator will turn to that position. The compass rose has disabled across it and we do not get an indication where the antenna is pointing.   Any suggestions? Operating system on computer Windows 7.

You have not given enough info to make it possible to help you, What kind of rotator do you use ? How have you connected to it, via serial port or via rotor interface1216L ? If you have connected via a serial port you have probably only connected the TX-wire, so data goes to the rotator but not back from it.

We are using your RS 232 adapter cable 1216S connected from the webswitch to the RS 232 connector on a HyGain DCU1
antenna contol.
We are using the computer to browse to the Webswitch. We see the compass rose with disabled on it. The presets will rotate the antenna and a bearing entered in the lower left box also will rotate it.

Check that you have set it to the right protocol, if you have check that the cable to the rotator is OK, it looks like you have data going from webswitch to rotator but not from rotator to webswitch.

Tnx for all your help. I don't understand what you mean by check to see if we have the right protocol. Can you please explain this.

Tnx and 73

Ok

You can setup what kind of rotator you connect the Webswitch to. They are using different protocols. For example  Prosistel, Green Heron, ERC, DCU-1, Idiom Press or Yeasu GS-232B

Mike

According to HyGain their DCU-1 controller can not send the current position of the rotator to the computer. We therefore can control the rotator and turn it but can not see what its position is on the compass rose. We will rely on the presets to point the antenna to a given bearing.

Switched to a Green Heron RT-21 controller and everything is working.
