N1mm on k0 to k3 remoterig hookup
« on: 2015-04-18, 17:37:14 »
I am reading instructions by Mitch on implementing N1mm for k0 to k3 operation.  Control site is where the RRC-1258-MKII is located.
1. Switch the use of COM1 at the MKII site to be mode 6 so CAT is via COM2 (back of the MKII)
2. Change the USB-computer connection to be used as COM1.
3. Connect the USB cable  between MKII and computer and restart the MKII with the new setup.

Question: Should this cable now go from the back of the MKII (Com2) to the computer  rather than from the front (COM1)  where it was before?

Hi Ken,

I am behind on answering posts, since due to an operation I couldn't work at all.

I do not understand your question. There is only one, single USB port on the RRC, so you can only
plug it in the front and to the PC.

If the cable stays on COM1, OK.

I guess I do not understand what changed when you change the RRC-1258 MKII from mode 7 to mode 6.
I am looking at your instructions to W1UE.
The back of my RRC-1258 MK II has 9 pin connector labeled as COM2.  That is the connector to which I was referring.

Sorry to hear about your operation.  I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, Ken, I am doing fine, but will be home another two weeks.

You have completely lost me on what you did. Here are the instructions for using CAT on a K3/0 using USB:

Radio RRC:
- Change serial settings: COM1 to mode-7

Control RRC:
- Change serial settings: COM1 to mode-7
- Change "Use USB Com Port as COM1" to YES
- After RRC restarts, go to Windows Device Manager and look to see which virtual port was assigned to COM1 and use that for CAT

The COM2 cable is used to connect the two K3's together and can not otherwise be used or removed!

I hope this is clear.

I like to close the loop, so there is more that needs to be said.
Thanks to Dennis, W1UE -the COMExtra port MUST be used for CW in the N1MM+ setup.  There is a parm that can change it from
RTTY to Winkeyer on the serial settings.  It is the COM3 mode settings.  Also use the latest software in the 1258.  There was a special fix put in for N1MM+.

Ken,

You never mentioned that this was for CW or Winkeyer, otherwise I would have given
you different information about COMEXTRA. I assume this was for CAT, please be more
clear in future postings.
