Non-HF Rigs with remote front panels?
« on: 2010-04-26, 06:16:09 »

I am considering an installation of several radios, multi-band VHF/UHF, where the operators and acceptable RF location are separated by several hundred feet, but interconnected by fiber/Ethernet/TCPIP.

Short of using

The present radios are tri-band Kenwood mobiles (50/144/440, 144/220/440, 144/440/1200) but may have to be replaced depending on the support for them offered by 'RemoteRig'.

Will the 1258MkII support common mobile radios with remote heads - Yaesu FT-8800, FT-8900, etc. ?  It would be IDEAL if each rig's control head could be simply remoted via proxy through this potentially wonderful appliance!

Hi

There is only support for IC-703,IC-706, IC-2820, TS480 and TS2000 with separate control head today.

We tested with FT-857 but it was not possible to use because the Control head needed acknowledge from the radio without delay, so we haven't even tested the other Yaesus assuming they are the same.

My only other question would be, and it would expensive to buy, try and find out, if rigs like the Kenwood TM-742 or other VHF/UHF mobiles will work on extended remote control (unlike the Yaesu.)

We have previously invested in 4 TM-742, which do not have RS-232 or other PC programming or control support.

The undesirable alternative would be to buy all newer Icom or Kenwood VHF/UHF rigs that do support RS-232/CI-V remote control, on top of the cost for RemoteRig appliances for each.

Perhaps you know already that the newer series of the kenwood tm-d700 rig (dual band mobile set) offers hardware and software compatibility to the ts2000, so you can use TS2000-Settings to command a tm-d700 via front panel. RC2000 and front panel of the tm-d700 are exchangeable (newer firmware versions).

Hi,
similar to K9GVF, I would like to connect a Kenwood TM-741 (or TM-742) via internet by using RemoteRig.
I have no requirement about remote front panel: the rig could remain as is and the remote station can use a PC in order to control the TM-741. Is it feasible?
Is it possible to control up to 3 rig (for instance, 3 Kenwood TM-741) by using the same ADSL connection? (It is a 8Mbit downlink / 1Mbit uplink connection dedicated to this purpose).

Last question: Is it possible to control 3 ICOM IC-2820 by using the same ADSL connection?  ::)

thanks in advance!
