Hi,
Another very happy Icom-7100/RRC user, great radio with the RRC units and also using HRD to control the CIV. CW is great as well.
The "feel" of the radio control head is as good as having the rig on the desk, tuning is very nice, no dial backlash due to latency evident at all.

I had to adjust the Radio Unit Codec Out Gain down to 220 instead of leaving it at 255. This was done to greatly reduce the amount of noise coming from the RRC-1258, some pulsing noise every 8 seconds.

I then had to adjust up the Codec inp gain on the control unit up to 60. The mic that comes with the IC-7100, the HM-198 seems to have a low output so the Codec inp preamp was also switched on.

I also use the audio quality 2 on both ends and the remote audio is now great, no noises from the RRc-1258.

Thanks to Mike and ICOM for a great combo.

Thanks, CW all fixed.
The IC-7100 is absolutely great at the remote site, I could not recommend it highly enough.
SSB, CW, WSJT, WSPR, chirp radar simply great and a lot of fun.

PS,
I am using HRD and DM780 for the CW, the local CW sidetone from the remote rig is great. The connections are all as described earlier in this post.

Hello Palle,
I am having trouble with my IC-7100 sending sensible CW as the CW is broken up, sometimes it sends the correct characters and sometimes not.

Could you let me know what your CW settings are please, for the IC-7100 and the remote rig boxes.

This is very frustrating as my IC 7000 worked fb on CW, now it is a whole new process to get CW working again.

Hello,

I have acquired an IC-7100 and wish to use the control head ( which is on COM 0 ) and the CIV from the remote unit at the same time so that I can use HRD or any similar logging program to get the frequencies and modes of the remote unit into the computer. I have tried to configure this arrangement but the CIV backhaul that I use with the IC-7000 is precluded as it requires to place COM2 logically in parrell with COM0 at the control which is in conflict with the IC 7100 configuration.

Ideas please??

Hello,

After upgrading to 2.66 on the radio unit of RRC-1258, first time it worked fine. Next time I could not connect so I tried
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:portnumber/setrrcdevice?type=radio and that did the job. However it is important to note that the port number is also required if the RRC is behind a router.

Hello Carl,

I tried to use a VPN for the remote rig and I did get it to work, however...

The VPN keeps track of ALL the data to ensure that the data gets to the other end. The result of this is that if the link goes a bit slow, then the data rate is slowed but the VPN does not get rid of any data so that the voice data is also slowed, but a PERMANENT delay is introduced into the voice, which make it useless. This may not happen all the time but when it does it is very frustrating. Further problem is also that the control is also delayed.

Thus, if you do not need to use the VPN then use port forwarding at the remote modem.

Hello Jorge,

It is better to use the OUT 0 as Mike suggested because if your internet connection fails then the connection will be lost and the OUT 0 line will also go off. If OUT 0 controls a relay for the transceiver then that will also be turned off if your internet connection fails.

With the webswitch, the relays stay in the last set condition and do not turn off if the connection is lost, thus in this case your transceiver will stay on of the internet connection is lost.

With the IC 7000, connect the power and then turn it on in the normal way. From then on every time the power is connected the IC 7000 will come on, do not turn off the 7000 via the front switch.

My remote IC 7000 has been working in this configuration ( OUT 0 and a high current relay) for over a year now and it is very reliable, the biggest hazards to the remote operation are my fingers.

Hello Mike and Mitch,

Thanks for your reply and thoughts. The connection is via ADSL at both ends at a speed of 4.9Mbps, and the network latency is about 60ms. The data each way streams at around 300kbit/s, audio is linear 16 bits, 12kHz.

I tried the RTP on that Mitch suggested but that makes the problem worse. With RTP off, as long as I move the cursor the radio keeps tuning. If I pause the cursor tuning, then start again it takes some time to start tuning again.

I tried full duplex as Mike suggested and that does seem to reduce the delay to start. The function buttons in HRD also react more quickly so the problem is much reduced, many thanks.

Hello,

I am using HRD to connect to a remote IC7000. RTP status is excellent (60), UDP cmd status is OK(45) and the audio and CW work very well with RX jitter buffer size = 5, RX jitter delay 3 and packet size of 6ms.

However, when using the tuning via HRD there is always a delay to start (of up to several seconds) and after that the tuning (or any other HRD control) runs very well. If I do not tune for several seconds, then the same happens again with a delay to start.

Using HRD on a IC 756P3 locally at the same baud rate the issue described above is not evident at all so it is not the computer or HRD. If I connect a laptop at the remote site using HRD this issue is not evident at all.

There thus seems to be an issue when there is a higher latency with serial bandwidth allocation although the audio is great with no breaks.

Is it possible that a permanent allocation of bandwidth can be made for the UDP cmd function so that when tuning starts there is no latency while bandwidth is allocated for the cmd/ serial functions. Even if zeros are sent if there is no serial traffic just so that the bandwidth can be permanently held for the serial functions so that tuning using HRD starts instantly please.

Hello Mike,

Thank you for helping to resolve this issue, the serial <3000 was fixed. Then....

It was very simple, put the correct Dns server address in the IP settings of the Radio unit and the radio unit will be able to contact the remoterig ddns server. This then enables the control unit to find the radio unit.

As it says in the radio unit Dynamic DNS settings page "When 'ddns.remoterig.com' is selected the following parameters are self-generated during 'Apply changes':
Own host name Username Password". I did not read this and assumed that as these values had been generated then the remote radio unit was communicating with the remoterig ddns server. This is not the case.

Hello Mike,

The serial numbers are radio 2942, control 2932. I restarted both uints and tried again but the result is the same.

On the radio RCC I do get a own host name xxxxxxxx.ddns.remoterig.com, user name rrc1258-2942 and password   zzzzzzzz.

On the status page of the control unit I get     DNS status     Error, failed to resolve xxxxxxxx.ddns.remoterig.com!

On the status page of the radio unit I Get       DNS status     Querying status

I can resolve my remote IP from both the control site and the remote site using a ping to my dyndns host name.

Is there any other test I can do to help please.

A ping to the remoterig ddns host results in "unable to resolve host name from the local and remote sites.

I can ping the DynDns host and get the remote IP but pinging the dns host name at remoterig does not give me an IP address. Is this the problem??

Thank you for this service.

After upgrading to 2.48 in control and radio units,I followed the instructions in the user manual A17 to the letter. But, after pasting the "own host name" into the SIP contact box of the control unit, and restarting it, the green light (pwr) blinks and I cannot contact the remote radio unit. Reverted to DynDns host name in the SIP contact box and all OK.

Ideas please.
