Just to confirm there are some suitable cable advertised as IBEX with RP-SMA connectors on ebay for around $6 inc postage in the UK. They are much cheaper if you can wait for the slow boat from China, of course.

I am now back up and running!

Thanks Mike. I think I have found one on ebay on the UK. It is cheap enough to make a mistake! If I am stuck, I'll get in touch.

Hi Everyone,

I have 3 full RRC set ups, two of which have wifi cards in the "head" boxes. I was cycling to work recently and had a minor accident when the RRC was in a hard case in my cycling bag. Somehow the RP-SMA was damaged beyond repair. I see that the co-ax pigtail between the RRC board and panel mount RP-SMA is detachable and would like to replace this item. What connector is used on the PCB end? I don't recognise it but google suggests it is an IPEX. Can anyone confirm?

Cheers

I've had a similar issue with my ts-480 set up. After half an hour or more or normal use, N1MM+ stops sending the last character of my cw message (e.g. I send M0BP when in S&P). Inserting a space at the end of the command string in N1MM+ returns me to M0BPQ.

I also found that shutting N1MM+ down, rebooting my "face plate" RRC and reconnecting resets everything and the space is no longer required - for another half an hour or so.

Its been rather frustrating in contests, but I'm not serious enough about them for it to be a game changer!

General discussion forum / Config for Easy Rotor Control
« on: 2015-10-02, 18:08:08 »
Hi everyone,

I am slowly rebuilding my remote station and I want to use my Easy Rotator Control (ERC) v4 with remoterig box.

The ERC works perfectly with a PC, but doesn't work with com 1 on the RRC box. Can anyone advise what I am doing wrong?

  • I am using a null modem gender adapter to connect the ERC to the RRC com 1 as suggested in other threads on various forums.
  • The RRC com 1 ports are configured to run at mode 3 character time out, 9k6 baud, 8 bits, 1 stop bit, parity off and no rts/cts or terminator
  • The RRC virtual serial ports work just fine for CAT control on com 2 and for winkey, so I assume that com 1 is installed correctly
  • I have tried the ERC set up software (it reports no ERC present), PST rotator and the ERC control software through the rrc. Clearly the last two were tested in hope rather than anticipation. All work FB on my laptop with the ERC connected directly.

So, what have I done wrong this time?
Thanks for your advice!

General discussion forum / Re: Data usage rates
« on: 2015-10-01, 10:28:35 »
Thanks Mitch

I'll put the 1258 on the same psu  as the radio. I use the web switch to control AC power so it will get turned off with the radio.

I imagine the issue is in the router config but I have combed every tab with no luck. I guess I should leave the router running on its own for a day to isolate the source.

I used to use a VPN and lower cost data without a fixed IP, but my provider hasn't been able to sort out some technical issues. Once those are resolved I'll ditch the expensive data!

Cheers

Hi everyone,

I've had a lot of problems with internet at my remote site, so I have bought an expensive fixed IP sim card that charges per MB. RRC over 3G/4G works perfectly, but looking at my data usage it seems that I am eating 900kb an hour when my station is not in use. As I pay 2p (3 US cents?) per MB, I want to reduce this - it costs me 50p (75 US cents) a day for the station to sit idle. Any ideas why this is happening?

I am using a consumer grade Netgear 4 port wifi 3G router (MBR624GU) with a 1216E webswitch and a 1258 RRC attached. Nothing else. DYNDNS is switched off in the router and the RRC. There is no DYNDNS in the webswitch. I am stuck - is there some other background keep alive that I should be looking at?

Thanks es 73, Steve M0BPQ

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Winkey mode
« on: 2014-12-01, 20:41:20 »
Hi everyone,

For a long tinme I have been using an outboard winkey, but I figured it was time to utilise the inboard winkey emulation. The virtual serial port is set up to be 1200baud, 8 bits, no parity, 2 stop bits.  I have set this up to work with N1MM+ and the first time that I ask N1MM to send some CW it works fine. After one call that it refuses to work again. N1MM gives me an error message (pasted below as it is long)

I have com2 for CAT control (ts-480, 4800 baud) and this works OK with a real cable, but not via USB and a virtual serial port. Any guesses what I should change? I looks like I have a software problem, Rebooting the computer makes cw work (once) as does rebooting my RRC box. But restarting N1MM makes no difference.

I'd apprecaite your thoughts!

For public info - I am using RRC v1 boxes so no strap problems. The RRC- face and RRC- radio cables check out fine from pins 1-8 for continuity and pin to pin connectivity as per the manual. I have sent my system details to Mike so that he can try a remote login. A but stuck why this has stopped working after several months....

Once I have the face back illuminated, I will need to look at the CIV issues  ;)

Adde I use a traditional PC interface using optoisolators, but I guess transformers will work just fine too. I define a com port on N1MM to switch the PTT and pick it up from there. The relay in my h/b interface box steers the audio. As I contest on VHF+ I call CQ a lot. As a result my NC relay contacts are connected to the souncard audio and NO to the footswitch (mic) PTT. I do not route my mic audio via the PC soundcard in case the PC fails for some reason.

This is not an elegant solution, but I had the bits in my junkbox, so I made something that worked at the time. It hasn't broken, so I haven't changed it!

With my other radio (also via an RRC) I have used a microham interface, but am having problems with that set up at the moment.

Hope that helps?

Pleased to see you have your system working.

I am afraid mine is not though. I turned off the CIV as you sugessted with no change. Then did a factory CPU reset, with no change.

To recap. The face works fine locally when my RRC cables are joined using a back to back adapter and plugged into the 706, but I get nothing on the face plate when connecting over my LAN via the RRCs. Tuning, audio, cw etc are all fine. I have just updated the FW to the latest release. Any ideas where I am going wrong or what I can test, readers?

That's more or less how I do it Adde. I have the usual isolation for the pc and us a relay that switches the mic in line when the ptt is pressed. Works just fine. 73 steve

I also have the "dark panel" problem with my 706G, but audio, cw keying etc is being transferred jsut fine. Funnily enough this happened to me after I tried to config computer control as well. I know my cables are still good as I just tested them with a back to back RJ45 adapter....

please post if you find the answer to your problem and I will do likewise.

I use my winkey (built into a microham MKII) via IN0 and it works just fine. I must admit that I built this before the USB keying was available, so but I am unliekly to change it now! However making a custom cable for the DB37 was a pain......

Thanks for your help guys.

I have had another go at this and holding down the reset button for 30 secs to do a factory reset and starting from scratch solved my problem. The serial number reported by the RRC config programme is still wrong, but it work now! OK, so I had to do a raw reconfig, but it is a small proce to pay.

Thanks for the offers of help tho!
