TS-480 and The 12 Beeps
« on: 2016-10-16, 12:18:32 »
Hello all!

Yesterday (Saturday) my OM and I set up a TS-480S with a radio RRC and controller RRC at his townhouse.  We were testing it inside the local network over Wifi.  When we got everything turned on and ready to use, we pushed the power button on the control head of the 480 but got no power, but what we did get was 12 beeps from the control head.

The RRC's are set up to use Remoterig's DDNS.  Ports 13000 to 13002 are being forwarded through the wireless cable modem/router at the location.

Initially when we first started, the ports weren't forwarded but we got a different sounding beep, much like a telephone error code for a number disconnect (3 beeps with no power).

We've checked and double checked the jumpers and strapping as described in the manual and still nothing.  This TS-480S has the RJ-45 mic connector and in both RRC's they are set to profile 5 under the radio config.

Dad wants to leave on Monday to get this set up at the farm for the winter, a drive of about 6 hours north of here.  Any and all help would be greatly appreciated and thanks!

Start testing on wired LAN with IP-address in the SIP contact field. Portforwarding and DDNS etc are of no interest as long as you have both units on the same LAN, wired or Wifi.

Stacey,

Since I need to run, I dent you my networking checklist to your qrz.com address. I can help you
late this afternoon if needed.

Well, I got both the radio and controller to communicate.  First using a hardwired connection through a router, then via wifi through the same router, using suggestion from SM2O.

Now the problem seems to be transmit audio.  Transmit audio seems fine up to 20 watts, but it seems from 50 watts up to 100 watts there is flutter in the output audio and gets worse as the power gets closer to 100 watts.

Suggestions?

That's RFI either you have the used the wrong strapping, there are two versions of TS-480. If you  are using wrong config it will be be sensitive to RFI. If  you  have the correct strapping and still have problem you need RF chokes on the antenna feeders.

Mitch,

I got your checklist email.

Got the RRC control and TS-480 control face panel set up in my apartment about 10 miles away from my OM's townhouse where the radio RRC and antenna are located.  Before leaving his location, I set up both RRC's to point to the unique DDNS address.  Only error I have on the status page is a SIP error.  "SIP status" shows as error,  "Last SIP error" shows as "SIP error".

When I press power on the detached face of the TS-480, I hear 3 beeps and the yellow light above the AUX/MIC jack flashes until I reset the RRC.

I am assuming I will have to move the radio RRC in to the DMZ?

Oh, and to just mention that we had removed the RFI by moving the two units further apart in the townhouse.  We had everything going in the ham shack at the same time.  Made a 20 meter SSB contact and got a good audio report, so there appears to be no problems with the audio using the hand mic.

Stacey,

It sounds like you didn't forward the UDP ports. Alternatively, you could have used the DMZ. This is covered in my checklist.

I don't understand what you mean by "set up both RRC's to point to the unique DDNS address". You only put that in the control
RRC's SIP Contact field.

I would have gotten this going in 10 minutes for you this afternoon, but I guess you wanted to do it yourself. Just follow my checklist
and you will get it working.

What I meant about pointing both to the DDNS address is I have the DDNS address in the "SIP Contact" on the control RRC.  I put a unique SIP password on both the control and radio RRC's.

On the local router and remote router, using port range forwarding, ports 13000 (SIP port), 13001 (UDP audio port) and, 13002 (UDP cmd port) are forwarded, each using UDP.

Didn't have Teamspeak.  Installed it.

Dad is up at the farm and set up the radio RRC and it works!   Made some contacts on 10, 15 and 20 meters on Sunday afternoon.  Just tickled that everything works as though the radio is right in the same room.  Very happy customer!
