RRC-1258MKII & IC706 FIRST VERSION
« on: 2024-03-10, 21:13:51 »
Hello everybody and thanks for reading.

I,ve got a pair of RRC1258 MKII, Firmware 2.95 and I'm trying to work them with an old IC706 (first version, HF and VHF 10W).

Both are on same network 192.168.1.x (x=227 for Control Unit and x=228 for Radio Unit)

Radio settings are set as in manual page 116 (Program mode is 2 - IC-7100,IC706,IC703)

I've set strips and jumper as wrote in manual (page 115), with "SIP contact" on Control Unit set to 192.168.1.228, so pointing at Radio Unit

BUT:

- No "Connect Button" on Status menu in Control Unit, so I can't connect the two units (red and amber led on both AUX/MIC are OFF) -- SEE ATTACHMENT

- If I change in Control Unit/Radio settings from 2 - IC-7100,IC706,IC703 to whatever else (es. 4 - Yaesu,Kenwood,Elecraft), I get "Connnect Button" on Status menu in Control Unit and if I press it, then connection is finally ON (on both AUX/MIC red led is OFF and amber led is ON).   -- SEE ATTACHMENT

I've made several HW reset but NO WAY to get "Connect Button" on Status menu with Control Unit/Radio settings = 2 - IC-7100,IC706,IC703

Any idea ?

There should not be any connect button in program mode 2. They connect when you press the power on button on the control panel

Hello Mike and thanks for the reply.

Ok for NO Connect button in mode 2.

I have made cable following manual instruction, that is cutting an OPC-581 and joining the two halves to a CAT5 cable with RJ45. Both cables are OK, tested with ohm-meter and with RJ45 extender the radio turns on.

But when I connect cables to detachable panel, radio and RRC-1258 nothing works; radio does not turn on and of course I have no connection between the two RRC-1258

I have checked again jumpers and strips and everythings seems OK.

I'm at a standstill.....

Hi

How do you know the hardware is OK ? We are talking about a 15 years old product.

You can send export settings (htm) files from both units to support(a)remoterig.com so I can have a look

Hi Mike.

OK, anything can happen in 15 years....anyway the OM who gave me the pair of RRC, told me that 5/6 years ago RRC were OK.

I attached the HTML export from both units.

The only thing that seems strange to me is that on RADIO unit:

Other party   192.168.1.227 (OK, it is CONTROL Unit IP, so pointing to CONTROL unit)

Other party(mac)   00:1e:fd:29:78:a0  (This is NOT the MAC of CONTROL unit but MAC of RADIO unit - I think it should be    00:23:a7:45:25:8b)

Thanks for help.

The settings looks correct. If no nothing happens when you press power on , probably the cables are not correct or the hardware is broken. If both the RJ45s in assembled backwards it will work with the extender, but not with the boxes.  73 de mike

Hi Mike.

I finally found the problem and now everything works.

The problem was the stripping socket oxidized contacts.

I cleaned them with a deoxidizing liquid and now everything is fine.

At the present time I'm doing some tests on the local network. Then I will address the configurations for remote operations (DDNS etc.).

Thanks again for your availability.
