My DSL connection in Puerto Rico varies from day to day. When it drops below 150kbps using audio quality 2, audio gets choppy. Below 120kbps, it is not useable and the solution is to reboot the DSL modem remotely. I get typical speeds of 800Kbps down/250kbs up and that's perfect. Downlink speed is never and issue on my end, its the uplink speed that varies.

I have always used the TM-D700 with Remoterig with no issues. Configured just like a TS2000 since they share the same control head. I think the TM-D700 was in the manual, but removed when the TM-D710 was added. May be wrong.

I have always wondered if older Kenwood radios like TM-732 TM-733 and TM-742 would also work since they also use remote heads with possible TTL connections.

I have an older Iphone 3GS with data plan but cannot tether wirelessly because ATT/Apple won't allow it even though it is capable to do it. Only bluetooth and USB. I used it with Windows ICS (Internet Connection SHaring). I found the connection very slow and unusable with Remoterig. Downlink was very fast, but uplink was less than 200Kbps. Tests with Verizon were positive, no issues. This was 6 months ago, need to try when I get the new IPhone that will be announced soon.

I also have Netgear WNCE2001 bridge at home and it works flawlessly.

Hello,

About 2 years ago I stayed at a place called "Value Place" in Ft. Myers, Florida which is like an "Extended Stay" hotel and was there for a month. I was doing some work, and found I couldn't use Windows Remote Desktop (RDP) from Value Place after I had passed their agreements page. I couldn't use VNC either. But I can browse and check my email. So it is possible many public wi-fi hotspots do block services. I had to use a Verizon USB "dongle" to do my work.

Hello,

My friend Jay Santiago (KP4EOP) has put together a nice video of his remoterig setup on Youtube:

Good news. Friend received microphone I wired for him and it works ok. Apparently his TM-D700 mic is wired differently even though I have same mic. In any case all ok and Remoterig is fine..no need to return it.

Yes I agree. The problem is I have same exact hardware as he does. We compared wiring, took pictures of each others wiring, and made sure he didn't get confused with orientation. He tested with 2 different mikes, one from Kenwood TM-D7a and another from TM-D700. He looked inside RJ45 connector for bent pins. Nothing wrong. Curiously when he inserts mic and PTT is active, he presses PTT on MIC and no audio is passed to radio. It is almost as if he in fact does have wrong wiring, but photos of his wiring reveal it is just as in manual as as my setup. I sent him a microphone I made especially for remoterig and Kenwood wiring to make sure it is not his microphones.

Sadly I cannot be there to help him, but vendor is replacing his Remoterig with another one. (HRO), which has them in back-order and is sending him the wires.
On RJ45 on Remoterig reading from right to left as in manual this is what I have and what he has wired and sent pictures of:

5 - PTT

Hello,
A friend bought a Remoterig "control" unit to try it out using my Kenwood TS2000. He already had a TM-D700 so he is able to use my radio. After helping him on the phone he can power up and listed to my radio no issues. But when he connects the mic on his side, PTT is immediately activated. We wired it same as TM-D710 minus the 8V connection. I have same exact mic he has and it works fine on my end, so wiring is not the issue. We spent hours reviewing the wiring and have concluded it must be a bad unit. We suspect the diodes in line to mic connector and jumpers must be either shorted or open. Anyone had similar issue? He will be calling to get a replacement unit since his appeared to be used as it was missing the jumpers.

You will only see it in program mode 4. In program mode 5 it is not there because you will use front panel.

I made same exact test with the test account I setup and I finally saw the client report. In DynDNS it is "Microbit 2.0 AB - 1258 RRC - 0.0". This is the first time I see this client report, and my other Remoterig has yet to report this client updating, even though I have other clients reporting as well. I'll just have to keep an eye on the test host name since I triggered the change manually, instead of it doing on its own. I'll keep an eye on this and report in a few weeks.

Mode 4 is when you have a radio without a workable front panel (yaesu) or no panel. You will see a connect/disconnect button on bottom of "status" page in this mode.  Pressing "connect" button on status page will initiate SIP session and connect both your remoterigs. Mode 5 is when there is a panel like TS480 or TMD710. Pressing "power" button will initiate SIP session and power on your panel and radio at other end.

I use a Kenwood TS480HX with no issues. Make sure cable between front panel and Remoterig is good and uses 4 wire RJ11 connectors or 6 wire RJ12. Don't use RJ11 that only have 2 wires in them. Also make sure you have good power supply (1 amp or more) on remoterig control side to power the front panel.

It is set to 10. At another remoterig site I created a new host and Remoterig is the only client updating that host name. That interval is set to 60 and I have yet to see a report from Dyndns client in logs as well.

Other than that, I must say I'm very pleased with operation of Remoterig. Just updated to ver 2.36 of firmware on all 7 devices I manage (4 radios and 3 controls). The Dyndns client has me concerned because I have had to depend on the routers to do this work, but in a future setup I may need the Remoterig client to take this task.

I sure have. About 30 minutes ago I got a new IP address: This is what remoterig incorrectly reports:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Content-Type: text/html
Server: DynDNS-CheckIP/1.0
Connection: close
Cache-Control: no-cache
Pragma: no-cache
Content-Length: 104

<html><head><title>Current IP Check</title></head><body>Current IP Address: 69.89.43.224

The problem is this is incorrect. The real IP is now 69.89.43.218. The IP it is reporting is the old IP address that was just changed. On the DynDNS logs at http://dyndns.org  there is no evidence of the Remoterig client ever reporting anything. All other clients (Netgear/Windows 7 client) all report fine. I also see the "error code 8" as well.

Is dyndns client working for remoterig v2.35? I had an issue today and rebooted the DSL modem. When checking logs in dyndns, I noticed I don't see any updates from Remoterig client. The updates all come from a Windows 7 PC I run remotely that has Dyndns client installed as a backup. I re-enabled Dyndns client on Netgear ADSL modem and it reported the update. I have Dyndns on Remoterig set to 10 minutes intervals but nothing on Dyndns logs is being reported.

I also clicked on the status link on Remoterig info page and it reported an incorrect IP. I rebooted the remoterig, and tested again and now reports correct IP.

Here's a list of various clients I use on different sites and what they report in DynDNS logs, except Remoterig client:

Netgear DGN2200 client: Linux DDNS client 0.9 / null@null.com
Netgear V1 WNR2000 router: ez-update-3.0.10 mips-mips-linux-gnu [daemon] (by Angus Mackay)
Netgear V2 WNR2000: NETGEAR - WNR2000v2 - V1.0.0.40
Windows 7 Client: DynDNS-Client-Win32/4.1.6/Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium /IG=N (using SSL)
Remoterig:  ???

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Re: Wireless Internet Connection
« on: 2011-04-11, 00:40:24 »
I tested a Verizon Wireless USB device with Remoterig succesfully. I used it with Windows 7 laptop and using the ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) feature of Windows.
The only problem is the Verizon internet account is limited to 5GB a month, so be careful if your account has limits.
