Rotor Control Anomalies
« on: 2014-08-09, 23:49:49 »
I am using WebSwitch 126H model HAM, hardware 1, and firmware 4.4, dated 12June2014 with Rotor Control 1216L-3.  The rotor is a Yeasu with grouind-to-actuate relays for CW and CCW rotation and an analog output which seems to run  from 0 to about 3.6 volts.

When I first connected it, everything worked fine.  After a few minutes, I see the following behavior:
Pushing and holding CW key turns it red briefly, then back to green, with CW and CCW labels grayed out, followed shortly by normal labels.  The rotor does not move.

Pushing and holding CCW key works normally, most of the time.

I am able to move the rotor to anywhere I want by entering a preset and hitting enter or GO!  That is, it wil move either CW or CCW as necessary.

Any suggestions?
Thanks & 73,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Are you using a phone app or a browser? If so, which app/browser?

I am using a browser.   Firefox 31.0.

Just checked it again, same behavior.  I can rotate and hold left, CW immediately stops.  If I command a new direction which requires CW rotation, it works fine.
Thanks,
JIm

Jim, I think I am about to find something. Could it be that you have 'Scale start" set to a non-zero value?

Jan:
I do not recall explicitly setting "SCALE START" at any particular value, but 00000000 on the A to D corresponds to 180 degrees, with inceasing A/D counts representing CKOCKWISE rotation to the North an d then back to South.

Thanks for looking into this.

OK, but what is that setting in your case? Is it non-zero? It sounds like it should be that according to your description. Have you tried HAM version 4.5? -> http://www.webswitch.se/wp/?page_id=162

I do not remember any SCALE START setting.

I am on ham version 4.4.  I will upgrade and advise.

Jan:

Upgrade to 4.5 fixed it!

In Rotor Settings, I noticed an option to select A/D bits -- is this possible?  Or is my webswitch a hardware 10-bit device?

Thanks,
Jim

This page explains about the options available for the A/D resolution:

Thanks, Jan.

I have a 1216L-3, so think I'm done.
May buy another 1216L down the road, so I get the 10-bid A/D.  I'm turning a VHF/UHF/microwave array, so would like a little better than 1+ degree resolution.
