When turning SUB receiver on/off, the AF and RF levels of the MAIN receiver are reset to about half of the volume. This works both ways when turning SUB on and when turning it off.
I tested volume, directly on the radio, and they remain where they were set.

Is the AF/RF level set on purpose, and can it be configured to remain as it was set?

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Re: CAT control on Remote side

Mike and Mitch, thanks for your quick replies.

I have in Serial Setting both (Remote and Control) set to Mode-7. On the Remote Unit side, I plugged in the cable to physical COM1 (front side of Remote RRC), and I can talk to K3 also on Remote side, on top of existing CAT control on Control side.

Just something I could not find in manual. It works now for me. Thanks!

Configuration, RRC 1258 / CAT control on Remote side

I have K3 Twin setup. On the RRC Control side, I use RRC1258-COM1 for the CAT control and RRC1258-COM2 for DTR CW keying.

Is there a way on the Remote Unit side of the RRC to get to CAT control? If I plug USB to Remote Unit RRC, I can see 4 virtual COM ports, but they have no functional label in Device Manager, the way Control RRC Unit has. Or, can the physical COM1 on the front of Remote unit RRC can be made for CAT control?

By CAT control, I mean more of receive function only, to allow Amplifier at remote location to monitor K3's frequency for its segment tuning.

I did run all attempts as Admin. I figured it out. After generic USB ports show up, I had to force driver update by clicking on each of the 4 virtual USB ports Properties \ Update Driver. After that they showed up as RRC 1258 instances with Microbit 2.0 AB as provider (usbser.sys 10.0.10240.16401)
There is still a problem using the COM port with logging software, but OmniRig seems to have no problem with the same Elecraft K3.

Oh well, it is better than it was :)
Thanks!

BTW, when you go to uninstall programs (Programs and Features),  under the listing of programs to uninstal, Microbit Setup Manager version 1.27 is displayed.

On Win 10 64bit, after I install both Setup Manager 1.28 and allow virtual COM ports installation, I can only see 4 instances of generic USB Serial Device (COM3-6). In the driver details, the provider is Microsoft, so I guess the driver installation does not make the USB COM ports the RRC 1258 COM0-2,and Ext.

and btw, the version number is still 1.27 (when uninstalling programs)

Unfortunately, the virtual USB com ports are not working yet.

Any updates for the Windows 10 drivers for 1258 virtual COM ports?

Nice idea Steffan. Just out of curiosity, how do you verify that connectors are fully disconnected, other than not having any signals on any band? I mean how do you specifically know the motor has turned enough to stop at your programmed separation distance? Or do you just use webcam?

General discussion forum / PTT on/off when first connected

Hi, I am new to the forum and don't know if anyone had similar problem with K3 in twin configuration. Whenever I establish connection to the RemoteRig, the TX on remote K3 gets keyed on and off very fast. This condition can last for a minute or two, depending how cold is the room temperature at the remote site. It gets more prominent now in the late fall. During this time the control of K3 is very sluggish. VFO frequency tracking is slow, commands are barely accepted, and then after few minutes, everything starts working fine. I guess RemoteRig just warms up.

I narrowed it down to the remote side of RemoteRig, as I tested it with two different control RemoteRigs and different K0/K3. Also the remote K3 does not have any issues when started cold without RemoteRig wiring.

At the remote site, I discovered that this keying comes from the serial port line between RemoteRig and K3. Once I unplug the serial cable, the keying stops, but when I plug the cable back into RemoteRig the TX keying on/off does not come back with the same frequency. It flickers once or twice and then disappears. I have no luxury doing this trick when not at remote site.

Not sure if this is a cold-solder inside RemoteRig or some bug. Has anyone experienced something like this? Any ideas?
