As I understand the question the problem is the same as I have. At the radio site there is a 'local' pc which should be able to control the K3 via CAT whenever the RRC is not in use and that without switching cables. After all the remote operator can't switch cables. The RRC (COM2) and the pc is connected to the P3 serial DB9 connector (RS232) through a Y serial cable. This does not work for me.

Mitch, is your idea to connect the 'local' pc at the radio site to COM1 of the radio RRC and to connect the radio RRC COM2 to the P3 as usual? Then the radio RRC is working as a logical Y cable if set to Mode 7?

As far as I know a Y serial cable only works in one direction, that is when one master sends to several slaves, but I would like to know if anyone has a solution for a Y cable at the radio site.

Sounds like an internet problem with variable delay either at your control end or at the radio end. May be a big down or upload is running? You can get an indication of your internet connections by checking ping time with www.pingplotter.com/download

Hello Paul,

Your ping times to your remote site seems quite OK, mostly under 100 ms. The few spikes to 150-200 ms should not be much of a problem if you configure 'Advanced settings' and 'Keyer settings' in the RemoteRig boxes. Values for 'Keyer settings' is in the manual and if I recall correctly the delay should be similar to the ping time so try 100 ms. Here on this forum Mitch, DJ0QN has given recommendations for 'Advanced settings' for 3G. However your 4G/LTE is much better than a 3G connection, so I don't think you need to increase 'Advanced settings' that much.

I have set up a PingPlotter checking from my QTH here in Denmark to your remote site and I get quite stable 200 ms ping time during almost an hour with only 2-3 spikes to 300 ms. That is fine as crossing the pond often adds about 100 ms.

PingPlotter will measure ping times and packet drop outs over time, see www.pingplotter.com

Make sure your 4G/LTE router is set up for '4G only' so it does not drop down to 3G once in a while.

I have experienced longer ping times about once every minute when I am on WiFi. As WPA renegotiates encryption key once every minute I believe this may cause a delay. I found this using PingPlotter, but it has not been a problem for me

It is possible to make the RemoteRig boxes cope better with dropouts by adjusting 'Advanced settings'. Have a look on 'Keyer settings' also as you have problems with CW.

I have not changed "UDP cmd min-data-size". I noticed my problem some years ago and after checking, reboot and power cycling both RRC I ended up by power cycling the IC-7100 radio box (13,8 V off and on) and after that no more "UDP cmd Error" and the IC-7100 control panel could power on and start working. I may have had to power cycle the IC-7100 radio box about 3 times the last 5 years, so it is not a frequent problem. I have never seen similar "UDP cmd Error" with my K3 - K3/0-Mini setup.

On my setup with an IC-7100 and RRC boxes I have experienced UDP cmd status: error a few times during the last 5 years. In my case the IC-7100 radio locks up which can be overcome by power cycling of its 13,8 V. Restart of the remote RRC does not help. As I have a RigRunner 4005i see www.westmountainradio.com/product_info.php?products_id=rr_4005i power cycling of the radio is easy to do remote.

You need to get the audio to and from you control head of your IC-7100 from and to your local control pc where you have WSJT-X running. I use a Signalink USB for that. SignaLink to the Mic jack in the IC-7100 front panel using a standard Ethernet cable. My SignaLink is strapped accordingly by comparing the pin output of the Mic jack and the SignaLink, see www.tigertronics.com/sl_wirebm.htm#ICOM

There is no config in the K3/0 Mini (other than firmware). What ever config you do from the panel of the K3/0 Mini while connected will be config of the K3. If you have configured fP.H while connected this is the error. From the control site you must configure K3 for rP.H pressing Config on the K3/0 Mini while connected.

One explanation could be that the Apple hotspot has longer connection time to the internet and the V71A panel is sensitive to timing issues during power on. If that is the case a solution might be using another portable hotspot using 4G LTE.

Hvis det er internetopkoblingen som tager tid kan forbindelsen holdes åben med en ping f.eks. fra programmet Pingplotter eller en ping fra en DOS boks.

Pingplotter er i øvrigt godt til at fejlsøge svartider på nettet.

Nano via repeater with subtones works on my IC-7100. I put the QRG with subtone in a memory using the front panel and leave the IC-7100 on that memory. I can change band with the Nano and when I select the band with the repeater memory it is ready for a repeater QSO. However I cant change memory on that band so I an locked to one repeater on that band. Thus access to memories and subtones is still much needed.

Request for memory, tones and antenna tuner with Nano had been on this forum for several years, but it seems RemoteRig does not maintain or develop Nano.

Det er nemmere at koble SignalLink på control RRC eller remote head og så køre FT8 på en pc der hvor du sidder dvs. på control stedet. Det gør jeg med en IC7100.
