General discussion forum / Node-red

Hi,

Has anyone got any experience of running their webswitch via Node-red? There is an emerging ham radio groups.io group that is using Node-red to create some smart dashboards. I wonder if the remoterig webswitches can be added to my dash?

Thanks

I looking to sell my little used PC Client. I see they are $184 plus tax, so would cost me $220 in the UK plus shipping. I will sell for $140 plus postage to your QTH.

General discussion forum / DM5AL ic706 extension cable
« on: 2019-01-12, 09:20:58 »
Hi everyone

As the original ic706 cable is now out of production DM5AL is selling breakout boards on eBay. These use an Ethernet cable to join head to body. Has anyone used this with RRC? With RRC it looks like  custom cables are needed so I have made these as per the RRC manual but not having any joy. Either the cable is incorrect (but working with back to back adapter so physically ok) or I have screws up settings. Any ideas?

Thanks

General discussion forum / Sequencing and CW
« on: 2017-10-31, 12:32:38 »
Hi Everyone,

I am using a TS-2000 with RRCs on VHF and up with preamps and a sequencer. I have broken the mic PTT line to drive the sequencer input. The system works great in SSB and digi, but I cannot use CW as the RRC winkey will not drive the sequencer. Any thoughts on how to do this?

I can rely on PC generated CW if required, so wondered about disabling vox and using the mic PTT to key the radio. If that is the case then I can't use N1MM to call CQ in CW without me keying the rig each time.

Thoughts/experience/anecdotes welcome.

Thanks!

General discussion forum / 1216E connection issues
« on: 2017-03-23, 11:36:21 »
Hi Everyone,

I have a 1216E (Yes the old one!) controlling AC power at my remote site. However it is becoming unresponsive to commands over the lan (and wan). I have done the usual stuff - power cycle, new ethernet cable and different physical ethernet port on the lan but it still doesn't perform. It responds about 10% of the time.

What should I try next? Is the device failing? Reflashing the firmware is not so simple with the E version, but I guess I can do that if needs be..... Thoughts?

Configuration, RRC 1258 / RRC 1258 v1
« on: 2016-11-27, 19:23:35 »
Hi everyone,

I have three sets of RRC boxes including a ver 1 pair (I was an early adopter!). The ver 1 set hasn't been used for years and I have forgotten a few key points. Can you help?

I have built the cables and I can get rx audio to transfer over the Lan to my RRC dongle. However, I have serial port issues.

1) What settings/mode do I use for com 0 for the TS2K remote head? Atthe moment I have 57K6, 8, 1,0. Can I mix and match between dongle and head depending on my QTH? If so do I need to change any settings?

2) Which cable/RS232 port (front or back) do I use for CAT thru com 1. I assume it is mode 4 in the latest firmware, but I seem to recall that the ports were interconnected, but one of them needed a crossover cable? All other settings are as per the radio.

Can anyone advise on the ts-2000 settings in general or have a good memory and help me apply them to tthe V1 boxes?

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Expert amp thru com 1
« on: 2016-11-02, 15:17:57 »
Hi,

I am using my 1.3KFA with a Kenwood TS-480 and a Remote Rig (RRC) system and the RF side works a treat. I would like to use the Expert software to monitor the amp using the Expert “Port” connector with the serial data being transferred over RRC com 1. I have built (and checked!) the cable on the remoterig website. I am confident I am using the correct virtual com port, baud rate etc. The RRC boxes are configured correctly too at 9K6 baud.

I hit “connect” in the Expert software running on my remote laptop and it reports “connected” but no data from the amp is shown on screen and none of the buttons are active. I cant work out why! I don’t have a USB cable connected to the amp (which I understand disables the port data stream).

What on earth have I done wrong?
Cheers

General discussion forum / RRC wifi card spares
« on: 2016-05-21, 00:23:05 »
Hi Everyone,

I have 3 full RRC set ups, two of which have wifi cards in the "head" boxes. I was cycling to work recently and had a minor accident when the RRC was in a hard case in my cycling bag. Somehow the RP-SMA was damaged beyond repair. I see that the co-ax pigtail between the RRC board and panel mount RP-SMA is detachable and would like to replace this item. What connector is used on the PCB end? I don't recognise it but google suggests it is an IPEX. Can anyone confirm?

Cheers

General discussion forum / Config for Easy Rotor Control
« on: 2015-10-02, 18:08:08 »
Hi everyone,

I am slowly rebuilding my remote station and I want to use my Easy Rotator Control (ERC) v4 with remoterig box.

The ERC works perfectly with a PC, but doesn't work with com 1 on the RRC box. Can anyone advise what I am doing wrong?

  • I am using a null modem gender adapter to connect the ERC to the RRC com 1 as suggested in other threads on various forums.
  • The RRC com 1 ports are configured to run at mode 3 character time out, 9k6 baud, 8 bits, 1 stop bit, parity off and no rts/cts or terminator
  • The RRC virtual serial ports work just fine for CAT control on com 2 and for winkey, so I assume that com 1 is installed correctly
  • I have tried the ERC set up software (it reports no ERC present), PST rotator and the ERC control software through the rrc. Clearly the last two were tested in hope rather than anticipation. All work FB on my laptop with the ERC connected directly.

So, what have I done wrong this time?
Thanks for your advice!

General discussion forum / Data usage rates
« on: 2015-09-30, 12:07:01 »
Hi everyone,

I've had a lot of problems with internet at my remote site, so I have bought an expensive fixed IP sim card that charges per MB. RRC over 3G/4G works perfectly, but looking at my data usage it seems that I am eating 900kb an hour when my station is not in use. As I pay 2p (3 US cents?) per MB, I want to reduce this - it costs me 50p (75 US cents) a day for the station to sit idle. Any ideas why this is happening?

I am using a consumer grade Netgear 4 port wifi 3G router (MBR624GU) with a 1216E webswitch and a 1258 RRC attached. Nothing else. DYNDNS is switched off in the router and the RRC. There is no DYNDNS in the webswitch. I am stuck - is there some other background keep alive that I should be looking at?

Thanks es 73, Steve M0BPQ

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Winkey mode
« on: 2014-12-01, 20:41:20 »
Hi everyone,

For a long tinme I have been using an outboard winkey, but I figured it was time to utilise the inboard winkey emulation. The virtual serial port is set up to be 1200baud, 8 bits, no parity, 2 stop bits.  I have set this up to work with N1MM+ and the first time that I ask N1MM to send some CW it works fine. After one call that it refuses to work again. N1MM gives me an error message (pasted below as it is long)

I have com2 for CAT control (ts-480, 4800 baud) and this works OK with a real cable, but not via USB and a virtual serial port. Any guesses what I should change? I looks like I have a software problem, Rebooting the computer makes cw work (once) as does rebooting my RRC box. But restarting N1MM makes no difference.

I'd apprecaite your thoughts!

General discussion forum / Connection via browser
« on: 2011-09-17, 17:47:35 »
Guys,

I had a working RRC system and have just tried to update the firmware via USB. The USB update was OK according to the RRC manager and I can connect to both boxes via the USB cable, but to only one of them via a browser. I have moved the system to a local ethernet swith so it is all on my desk to test. This means I can move cables etc between working and non working items and this has counted out any silly errors with cables

I have tried to reflash the firmware a couple of times, and have made sure that I haven't made any slips with IP addresses etc. When I connect to my problematic box with USB I get serial number 1966592 and a mac address of 00:00:00:00:00:00. Cycling the power makes no difference.

What do I need to do to reconnect via the browser interface? Is there any way to do a hard reset?

Thanks
Steve

General discussion forum / connecting to the RRC boxes
« on: 2011-04-16, 22:31:06 »
I have got a used set of RRC MKII boxes. They have been used by a club mate with his K3 and I do not know how he set up IP addresses etc

I have connected to the radio box and updated the firmware and set the IP addresses just fine via the setup manager. However, I cannot connect to the control (head unit) box. I have used two laptops and a single set of cables that have been proven OK with a web switch and the radio box.

The symptoms with the head unit box are:

When plugged into my Ethernet hub, the power light flashes indicating the Ethernet connection is not there. (The cables test as good!). I cannot connect via a web interface using the standard IP address.

When I try to connect via USB the setup manager does not recognise the box at all. It seems that the box starts to cycle the boot sequence – the power light flashes once then the lights on the AUX/MIC connector flash once. That sequence continues ad infinitum.

Holding the rest button for 10 seconds makes no difference.

I have two set of RRCs working just fine already, so I have some experience. Is the control box damaged? What am I doing wrong?

General discussion forum / TS-480 CAT problems
« on: 2010-05-04, 11:45:00 »
Hi Folks,

I have just picked up a TS-480 to use with my second RRC set of boxes. i have the remote head working FB along with TX/RX audio.

I want to use my Microkeyer II for CAT control and am having problems. The CAT cable from the MKII at the head end works when plugged into the TS-480 directly so this is clearly fine. This leaves me with some  questions:

Which type of cable should I use from the radio RRC com port to the rig? Straight through or null modem?

Also, what settings should I use in the RRC config - I know the baud rate (9K6 in my case), but assume it is 8 bits, 1 stop bit no parity (as per kenwood manual). Should I be using the Forced "0" parity instead?

I assume it doesn't matter which COM port I use?

Thanks!
Steve
